if its going to be shot from above water, i'd go for air, but under water; the hydro/aerodynamics are going to skew preformance

If your actually going to use it I would definitely go with mechanical for ease of use.

it would be like btb silent arrow thing with a piston going back and forth so no no air would leabe the barrel during the shot

somthin like this but longer and with a presure washer handle

When faced with a choice, take both. I am making a pneumatic silent "spear" launcher, while my friend is making a mechanical crossbow. They may end up being the subject of our end of year Stat project, measuring accuracy and the likes.

well it can be as easy switching up the barrels/chambers on one of your pneumatic spudguns

It would be interesting to see that on a large scale, and if you plan on using it underwater limiting the rush of air coming out of the muzzle would be beneficial to your ear drums ;)

hey guy tested it the power was very very powerful at 500psi and i wanted to see how much power i can get so i pushed it to a 1000 psi and the captive piston wasent so captive at 1000 psi it fired like a 10x hybrid on steroids so i now am doing somthing a bit easir to relod and perfect for reefs this will take alot of epoxy
i may need your help jack
my idea is based off this http://www.hawaiiansling.net/

How deep will it be used? The difference between the air chamber pressure and outside will diminish with depth. For a 100 foot dive in the ocean, the pressure is ( 100 ft / 34 ) x 14.7 = 43.24 psi

At 100 feet, a 100 PSI speargun will have an effective pressure of only 50.86 PSI.

the pneumatic one i made was to big and bulky and powerful for reef diving i am fixing it up for ocean spearfishing this is why i am making this cool hawian sling its made for reef and wreck diving
i will be spear fishing in 30 feet of water or sometimes 60
