A QEV is a quick exhaust valve, typically refering to the ones you buy. But some people call their homemade piston valves QEV's.

A QDV is something else though. I think it's Technitian's design... not sure. Just search it.
I first found the design used for chemical rinse tanks in process equipment. They used that style valve to quickly dump the chemical tank. Pressure of the chemical bath did not make the valve hard to move, but once it starts to move, the pressure blows the valve open resulting in a quick dump. I adapted it to a tank of air. I kept the valve name as it seems to already have a name.

The Quick Dump (QD) Valve is designed to be welded to the bottom of a tank and allows for quick drainage. This valve is manufactured in polypropylene, or PVDF stainless steel depending on the individual application.

Oh sorry thats what I meant :? but thanks anyway i think ill go for a piston valve they look much neater :)
