First post!

I had an over-under cannon, the simple kind with a ball valve and such, a 2in chamber and 1.5 in barrel that i built using a guide on Wiki-How. About an hour ago the cap on the chamber blew off (Not from over pressurization either, i was only at 70ish PSI, i think it was a defect in it, and yes i know i could repair it an all, but i want a better one xD). It was bitter sweet, but now I have a reason to build a new one.

Im a total noob to this, so bear with me.
I would like it to use a sprinkler valve (Modified)
Be able to shoot tennis balls a good distance (would 250ft be outrageous?)
and charged with a compressor.
made from readily available PVC parts.

It most likely blew out due to bad gluing practices. Take your time priming and gluing the next one.

I don't think you could do 250 ft with a sprinkler valve. I would do a 2" piston valve, piloted possibly by that sprinkler valve. I would use like a 4' chamber and 3' barrel to keep it compact, but if size is not an issue you can go real big and do like twice that.

Im building this first off for my own amusement, and secondly for use in an air soft scenario (Not like backyard games, real MilSim), so ill go with those sizes.

Link on a piston valve? The only ones i can dinf are wayyyyy out of my price range.

I'm talking a homemade piston valve, do you know anything about them?

Get a quick exhaust valve, and rig that up like a WWII style american bazooka. Just have everything inline with a blowgun trigger and your set. Buy a 2.5" barrel, and you can shoot tennis balls or nerf pocket vortex's.

So from what i can gather, I'm too much of a noob to use a piston valve. Nuff said.

So, I have thought of another idea.

Blowgun feeding a modded 1in sprinkler valve, then a piece of 1 in PVC, an adapter, then some 2.5in.

Thoughts?

I'm thinking... major flow restriction. If you want to shoot tennis balls far, you can't use a sprinkler valve.

Nuff said.

In that case, i would like to see it shoot a bare minimum of 150 feet. Is that doable on a sprinkler valve?

Also, will all of the other parts work?

you can buy pre made piston valves from spudfiles sponsors. Look in the pneumatic cannon showcase to see how they are built. I think it would be well worth your time and effort to go the piston valve route. I understand they are much more powerful, but i've never built one myself.

I was told i could get away with just a sprinkler valve, So that's what I will use.
