What type of release valves are you people using on your metal guns?

Ball valves?

QEV, QDV, piston, ball valve, hammer valve and more.

If you're unsure what those valves are, how they work, how well they perform or how much pressure they can take:

By release valves do you mean exhaust valves?

Most blowguns are good for around 400 psi, you can consider pressure washer valves for higher pressures as an alternative to ball valves.

Apparently some one wants JSR to add an "a" in his forum name.

He probably has been called worse but this is rather inappropriate from some real nooby youngster that needs to learn not to double post and also to learn how to search the forum/wiki for information to reduce some of the simplest questions .

Gippetto, I agree 110%. :D

Jack is probably one of the best online help guys. He is probably someone you would be better to be friends with.

The chamber is often considered a part of the "gun". The barrel is another part. The vale between the chamber and barrel is what you are really looking for.

The Wiki is a great place to start. Once in Valves you can go further and find a list of valves by their name and type.

See Category:Valves on this page for the list.
