urgle the danish cow: How is the yarn attached to to the nail? Whenever I try to do this the yarn just flies off of the nail.

And about the ice ammo, I've done it before. It works but not that great. Still fun to do every once in awhile though since it shatters into nothing when shot at a tree or other hard object.

I've always wanted to use ice as a target... fill a bucket with water and put it in the deep freeze, then take the ice block out of the bucket and bust it up, but I'd be afraid of the ricochet 8)

Looks like wire wrapped around strings on the under side of a roofing nails head.

No ricochet, ice is a very fun target. Small-diameter projectiles embed themselves in it, it makes an amazing target for ~2mm projectiles.

As to darts, they may require a long distance to stabilize, so don't be too close to your target when shooting. But also don't miss your backstop... a large dart turned sideways can punch a sizable hole in all sorts of building materials.

Building materials? Do us cannon builders count as a building material?

In this instance, only if you're a idiot. Which sadly includes somebody I know.

How so? Are we idiots for being counted as a building material? Because we are needed to complete the project. What are parts without a builder? Just parts. Nothing more, nothing less.
