Pressure regulator design

Good day spuders,

I'm kinda new to this scene and was hoping to get some advice. So here the story, I had already ordered a paintball marker from a local dealer and am really looking forward to be a paintballer. However, its taking longer then expected for my marker to arrive due to the lauzy service from my supplier. Then it hit me, why not make my own marker? So I did some research and came over this design for a pressure regulator that I think came from this forum. (I don't remember whose design is this but if you know, please inform me so that I may approach the person)

I made a model of it on SolidWorks and made a few tweaks. There are no actual dimensions yet but I'm hoping to change that in the near future. So the question I would like to ask is, if this design would work like a sprinkler valve? and how do I determine what dimensions to use so that I can contain the air pressure without catastrophic failure? Do have a look and if there is any advice or inquiries, please don't hesitate.

Why don't you make one along the same lines as wyz2285 design



Using a qev and a 3 way to pilot it.

I would just go for a tank with a shim adjustable reg, like the Ninja variety. The can be regged down to 450 psi just by removing a couple of washers, and that's more than enough pressure for a high performance design without needing to be overengineered.

The Ninja SLP model can be regulated as low as 300psi stock.

Thanks for the info guys. But I think I made a mistake when I said "pressure regulator". What I'm aiming to design is a mechanism that would create bursts of air each time the trigger is pulled and not a constant stream of air. The purpose is to create a sudden burst of air going to the barrel to push the projectile out of the barrel.

Btw, I've seen the qev valves that are available on the market only on the Internet and have never gotten a close up and personal. I was wondering if this mechanism would work similar to it or simply getting a factory made qev valve would be much easier?

But your input is still greatly appreciated.

That gun shown in my video is specifically designed for paintballs, it's accurate, reliable and and cheap, take a good search on ebay it may cost less than 30 bucks. In case you're interested, I have 2 videos showing how to make it step by step. (it may seems weak in the video, but I was using stainless steel bbs instead of light weight paintballs)

Thanks wyz2285, your design looks pretty good and effective. I am now looking for the parts to work on my very own marker. But I am going to be making the marker with a homemade qev instead.

Btw I'm also working on a grenade launcher, similar to a thumper. In this case, instead of making a pneumatic system that fires projectiles, I'm planning to make the projectile which can be pressurized while the system the pressurized projectile is fired from will only serve to trigger the projectile. Kinda like a how a real gun would trigger a bullet. So my question is, how do I determine how much pressure a certain volume can handle? As I might be using PVC to make it, I wouldn't want to over pressurize it and cause it to explode. Any advice guys?
