NOTE: I wanted to call it a "crossbow" in the title, but I doubt that to be an acceptable term.

If you don't know, Jöerg Sprave is an YouTuber who runs "The Slingshot Channel". He used to make videos of rubberband based contraptions that launch things into things, but lately he's been taking a liking at attempting pneumatic guns.
Because, in German Law, a launcher which the projectile envelops the barrel isn't considered a weapon, Jöerg isn't afraid of pushing the power of his launcher as high as he can. Currently is attempting to shoot an arrow at 1KJ and so far he's accomplish equivalent power to high powered pistols.

His arrows are very large and heavy, so he can't shoot them as fast as a firearm, but considering the speed they have, they carry a very large momentum. He's set up is the simplest I can conceive:
A long pipe has a filling port at one end and works as the air chamber. At the other end there's a manual ball valve which is then connected to a long thin barrel. He realized that ball valves are too slow at opening, so he made his rubberband-assisted. The valve handle locks to a trigger sear and pressing the trigger releases it.

If you are interested, he has made other kinds of launchers with similar set up.

EDIT: Video fixed. Wanted to ask someone about it berfore, but it was late...

Joerg was a fairly active member here - could probably bring him back on here for discussion if you had any questions if you send him a private message!
