breech loader idea

Hey I'm not sure if this has been done before but I was thinking of an idea for an easy breech loader. The barrel I have will have a 2" od so I was thinking of just ordering a 2" coupling and sanding out the stop it the middle and maybe sanding it down a little more so its easy to slide over the pipe. Then just drill or cut a hole in the barell and put the projectile in and slide it over the hole. Do you think this would let too much air escape or not be too much of a problem?

been done before. Yes, it will work but some air will leak out.

You can use a short piece of 2.5" Sch 40 and O-rings to make it completely airtight.

ive done it a few times and it does leak a little bit but it works fine. Great for golf balls. Just dont sand a whole lot out of the center. The coupling should be so tight that its hard to slide over the hole you cut. To make it slide easier give it some white lithium grease (or even get into the naughty drawer next to your bed and give it the KY Jelly treatment)

lol i used KY on a sprinkler valve once cause i ran out of grease and i wasn't happy with the sticky feeling it leaves on ya....lol

lol the problem noname with using 2.5" is I would have to order it online and its just a lot cheaper to order a 2" coupling for 1$ than a peice of 2.5 inch pvc. But i'm not sure if I want to do that yet I will probably start out with muzzle loading and if it gets annoying I'll do that.

you could always order some cam-lock couplings from mcmaster, theyre around $10 i think. It would solve the problem of a lot of gas/air escaping and barrel changes are quick and easy

yeah but I don't want to be pulling off the barrel I just want something to drop a golf ball in and seal it.

Sucks that you can't get 2.5." I used to be able to get only up to 2" Sch 40 but then a new hardware store was built, so now I can get up to 4," including all the Sch 40 sizes in between.

yeah basically the only thing homedepot is good for is commonly used pvc pipe
