@Spudthug -
He knows,He said its only a prototype. Nice valve by the way, looks like something I would buy. If your looking for a old/trustable/knowledgeable member your best bet is with spudtech. But still stick around here though. Most members here are under 18.

Why over 18?

But I do have experience in bigger cannons, and so does Schmanman. His cannon is kick ass!

How big of a monster gun? I'm going to get rid of my 8" pipe, probably sell it for $5 a foot.

yep, I'm 15, but I would gladly take a valve.

thanks for the recomendation, wow!

I'm 39, been a mechanic all my life.
My feedback for your valve so far -- I don't care what it looks like rite now, i need to see it in action, in person, before i can give anymore feedback.
As for looks, rite now, looks like the Mauler and supra. So, the same as the other two tryed and tested valve's that are allready out.

Honestly, I want one. its a chamber sealer. not only does it look cooler, it (should) actuate faster. As long as this thing doesnt cost the 156 bucks a supah does, i will definetly get one. 80 bucks is my max.......

ummm, VH_man,barrel sealers actuate faster than chamber sealers.

who told you that?

I'm over 18 (18 and 4 months), respected (I think/hope) and have a high-quality (but homemade) "digital" chrono.

But I live in the UK, which puts paid to that plan.

AFAIK, chamber sealers easier to fill from the chamber (as opposed to the pilot volume), but they have less flow, actuate slower, and are harder to construct.

But that's possibly flawed logic.

Hmmm I Think they should actuate faster, because the chamber pressure is pushig the piston backward, not the relative vacuum. i know it still exists, but its like a tee valve coaxial........

The valve works as it does because you let the pressure out behind the piston, until that pressure is low enough that the force on the front is higher than at the back.

The real trick (and the bit that most people don't realise) is that the extra area exposed to the air as the piston starts to move creates a huge spike of force, ramming the piston back at huge speeds

Because a barrel sealer achieves a much lower pilot pressure at the point of actuation, and then exposes a much larger percentage of the sealing face, it opens much faster.

A chamber sealer has a high pilot pressure at the point of actuation, and then exposes a relatively small extra area after it has begun to move - it simply can't open as fast.

Ok, i get it now. Too bad dual-chabered guns with chamber-sealing valves look cooler..........

Unfortunately I'm only 16 1/2....
I do have a chrony, and 4 years of spudding under my belt.

If not me though, I'd definitely recommend jrrdw and joannaardway (if you wanted to pay for shipping).

@joanna: i thought that a chamber sealer's higher flow rate compensated for the decrease in opening time?

In the end, the opening times aren't hugely different, and are fast enough anyway - there's a point at which it's so fast that the difference is inconsequential.

I don't know 100% about the flow, but normally people model chamber sealers as 35-40% efficency in GGDT, and barrel sealers as 40%-50% efficency, which I interpret as chamber sealers have lower flow.

About the valve - I've realised a second problem, which is that UK fittings aren't compatible with US fittings, which really does prevent such a thing.
