which valve is the best
i want to make a good gun with a good valve and so far i just use modded sprinkler valves but i want to make a good valve that has some power behind it..
what valve is the best...
simplicity to make: how easy is it to make?
hard to find materials: are the materials hard to find
power: will it dump a good volume of air out of the chamber in a split sec
size: how big can it be made
i dont want to buy a valve from no one. i want to make one myself
ive heard and read alot on barrel sealing t valves, and piston valves diaphragms and such other ones. but what one is the BEST?
any help would be great

Best valve? As I have said in other topics, it depends on what you are looking for.
Ball Valve
Pro- High flow, inexpensive, easy to obtain, easy to use, available in a variety of sizes
Con- Slow opening time, requires effort to open, often will get "stuck"
Butterfly Valve
Pro- High flow, available in a variety of sizes
Con- Slow opening time, requires effort to open, very expensive
Unmodfied Sprinkler Valve
Pro- Easy to obtain, fast opening speed, cheap
Con- Requires electrical setup, low flow, expensive at larger sizes
Modified Sprinkler Valve
Pro-Easy to obtain, fast opening speed, cheap
Con- Requires modification, low flow, expensive at larger sizes
Quick Exhaust Valve
Pro- Fast opening speed, moderate flow, pneumatically actuated
Con- Somewhat expensive, hard to find, expensive at larger sizes
Diaphragm Valve
Pro- Fast opening speed, moderate flow, great for huge valves, inexpensive
Con- Low flow, often needs to be reset after a few shots
Chamber Sealing Piston Valve
Pro- Moderately fast opening, high flow, easy to use, inexpensive
Con- Requires machining, lots of dead space, slower than barrel sealing
Barrel Sealing Piston Valve
Pro- Fast opening speed, high flow, easy to use, inexpensive
Con- None
I personally am biased towards the barrel-sealing piston valve... they are the best valve in my opinion

No if you know what you are doing it is very easy. But on the same hand if you have no idea what in the world you are doing it could be a nightmare.trae08 wrote:ok thx. are barrell sealing t valves diffecult to make?
rmich732 thank you mate you completely changed my mind on what valve i am going to use ive made/(not quite finished) a barrel sealing t valve

You can make it as big as you can afford. Me i like the barrel sealing valves, i made mine in a 4 way. The t's will be easier to make one from. You can make your piston from just about anything, just make sure you use a good bomber to keep it from destroying itself like mine is doing, (made from wood). Use your imagination, experiment a little.

Ive got to admit, thats very well done, though I think there could be a little more detail in the explanations. Nice job.rmich732 wrote:Best valve? As I have said in other topics, it depends on what you are looking for.

Also, Ive been searching but I cant seem to find a "tutorial" type thing on how to make a "barrel sealing piston valve". Ive seen the one from http://www.advancedspuds.com/valve2.htm but I thought that was a chamber sealing piston valve.

Heres with the piston in --
Heres without the storage chambers --
Heres the barrel sealing face, (1st try), you can also see where i trimmed down the end of the barrel to get it in the 4 way --

thats pretty kool. i think i might just stick with a regular tee..
i think i know how to make one but could someone maybe make an animated diagram or a drawing in paint of what it will look like on the inside?
ive found a couple of pictures but there not the best...
thanks for your help

hey don't chamber sealing valves open faster than barel sealling valves, like all the presure from the chamber is being put on the piston to make it fly back when actuated
hey wouldnt a burst disk be the best as far as releasing a huge amount of air?
like say you set up your gun with a burst disk and get a good disk to burst at 110 115 psi would that work?
also how do you build a gun with a burst disk between the chamber an barrell

It's all in the spudwiki, you just have to do a search, try "Valves".trae08 wrote:hey wouldnt a burst disk be the best as far as releasing a huge amount of air?
