hey i was looking into building a pneumatic rifle similar to the
PSR-01 and i was just wondering about the effective range of such a design. im new to spud guns and wanted to make a sniper rifle with a decent range. i like this design (with a few of my own mods) but if any other designs would be better, please let me know.

One of my mates decided to build this cannon, its all depends how much pressure you pump into it, it will go 200-300 yards if you pump it to say 120 -150 PSI, one tip with that design though, don't run the chamber through the stock, you'll be constricting the flow of air, so it wont be a good shot.

my plans are to make a over-under config similar to the PSR-01 with the chamber going straight into the modded sprinkler valve and craft a wooden stock to match the rifle.
sorry if this is a stupid question... is 200-300 yards a straight shot or a angled parabolic trajectory?

If you shot it at 45, it would go the distance or maybe more.

Good idea on the stock, it would look better than the PVC one thats on the original gun, and it will also divert the usual question that is asked about that particular design: "Did you run the chamber through the stock?".

RED FLAG RED FLAG just wondering what do u plan on using for this gun...pipe and fitting wise....since ur new i dont want u to not be acknowledged about the proper pipe and fittings to use and what not to use

pipe and fittings, im a nub so not sure on what u want to know...

well ill be using similar parts from the PSR-01. ie 20mm (16mm id) sch40 pvc pipe for the barrel. sch40 pvc pipe for the chamber (i think 30 or 35mm, cant remember) with appropriate elbows that would fit the sprinkler valve.

the valve itself is atm unknown, ill need to visit the hardware/plumbing to see what is available to me, and i will be modding the valve as per BC pneumatics tutorial. pressure gagues and tire valves will be connected to the chamber (at the end cap) and wont be filling this thing over 150psi.

for the rounds i made this aluminium block for moulding molten crayon (or similar material) into cylindrical rounds (with a tip) for a snug fit with the barrel.

anything that i have missed or forgotten or need to have changed please save my ass by telling me before i make this beast

He was only asking if you were going to use pressure rated pipe and fittings, so the whole thing doesn't explode on you,

When you buy your pipe, fittings and valve, make sure that they can handle pressure, and that its not DWV, which is drain pipe, make sure the pipe says

"NSF-PW" or similar, and then it should have a PSI rating.
Also, Make sure the valve you are intending to use is pressure rated and is able to handle your operating pressure.

oh gotcha, so make sure that the components are all pressure rated. i was also wondering about whether my chamber diametre is appropriate. i live in australia so unfortunately i might have to find alternative sprinkler valves that those recommened here on spudfiles.

Id go for 50mm personally, its easier to find, and for the same length, it will give you way more volume and wont looks as different, and Sprinkler Valves, Bunnings has got you covered, well down here in vic they do, the cheapest i've seen is $14 (give or take a buck) for a 25mm one, thats rated to 12 bar, so I thought that was a pretty good buy, but they definitely should have sprinkler valves, just check in the irrigation section, and not the plumbing section, like most people do when they tell me they cant find them anywhere.

Don't belive home cheapo people. This one guy at home depot told soemone on spudfiles dwv was pressure rated. it blew up in his leg.

Also id modify the sprinkler for a better shot.

make sure to user the proper type of pvc cement... and teflon tape the threads.

How did it the cannon get "in his leg?" Do you mean shrapnel? It's completely different.
You really don't need to check for a pressure rating on sprinkler valves, just don't use them over 150 psi. They're meant for pressure and can handle it.
