What is the average psi an aluminium burst disk, from a soda can, bursts at?

I don't think it will rupture at the sort of pressures used in typical pneumatics, as far as I know people usually use layers of aluminum foil for burst disks. Unless of course you score it with radial lines...

It all depends on the size of the disk. A large disk will hold less pressure than a really small disk.

Yep they do. And on mine I use 15 layers of foil, works good. And with it you can score it in a X pattern on the can. Might need a hybrid to get though it.

i use 2layers of soda can in 50mm union an it takes about 90psi to burst...seat of the burst disc is 42mm!

Thanks! some good data :D

I tried using foil but it was too frustrating and I ended up ripping my burst disk into peices :P

i find that the average burst pressure of normal aluminum foil in a 3/4" union is ~15 psi. i use the industrial aluminum foil (about 1.5 times as thick) and that bursts at about 25 psi in the same union.
