I have a free brass 2 inch ball valve, threaded in both ends, is it worth messing with? It is quite the monster compared to a one inch.

YES!!!
Make a ball valve cannon with a 10 foot 1"-3" barrel and you'll shit yourself at the performance.

2"= 4x The flow of a 1" valve. I think it would probably suit something like a 1 1/2" barrel best. It would be great if you could spring-load it.

Right now its a little hard to open, I will work on that. I really want to make another 2 1/2 barrel cannon . My first is 2 1/2....seems like lots of stuff fits that barrel.

So if I make a 2 1/2 barrel how long? I was planning 4 inch tank(s)

Here is the picture of it next to a one inch valve, A large picture.

Hahahahaha Frank, that's awesome. As for turning the valve, you could invent a pneumatic actuator for it. But yes, I say large cannon. Power overwhelming.

Put the valve in a bucket of soapy water.
Do you weld? If so you should make a metal chainber so that you can take it to over 400 PSI
Defanately make the valve spring loaded or fit it with a pnumatic ram like this one http://surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2 ... atname=air

Drown it in oil to make sure it turns smoothly and freely then attach a spring the size of a large sausage to the lever to yoink it open.

i would go with a small 1 or 1.5" barrel with a huge lenght to make up for lowsy opening time. the longer the barrel the more air can escape while the projectiles still in the barrel. most ball valve guns wast about 1/2 of the pressure becaue the things gone before the valve is open
