I want to put a new valve on my cannon. I was thinking of a mauler valve. How do they work? What are they actuated by?

I was thinking of buying it from BCARMS. What do u think?

i think they are expencive, but if you want to pay that much, i have heard they are really good.

I'd say its worth it. I'd love one but there just so expensive. I've always wondered how much mollah it actually takes to make one.

you can shoot golf balls through ply-wood with a regular piston valve thou.

I can shoot golfballs through 2 layers of 3/4" plywood and 1/2" mdf board with my combustion.

Mauler valves are barrel-sealing piston valves. A piston is housed inside of a tee and it seals the port going to the barrel. When air is pumped in through the inlet , the piston presses agaist the barrel, sealing it. It maintains this seal becuase of an equilibrium of pressure on the sides and back of the piston. When pressure is released from behind the piston, pressure from the chamber forces it back at great speed, letting air from the chamber flow out the barrel almost unrestricted. Piston valves are an extremely powerful alternative to a sprinkler valve or QEV, but you have to know how to build them. If you don"t have much experience in that area, you could always buy a Mauler valve. I'm pretty sure Maulers are cheaper on Sgort's website, but I'm not positive...

Well they are your only alternative to building your own piston valve now. To bad you cant get anymore SUpah Valves.

The Mauler valves kick butt. Wow. I have a dual Mauler launcher that will send a potato over half a mile (distance found using GoogleMap) The valves are great and the service is even better. My rubber seals tore. I told Gort about it, and he had replacement seals coming to me. Great kid, great valve.

so when u load up a shot you have to pressureize the inlet of the valve and the tank? If so to the same pressure i assume. I dont understand how u get equal libreyum without presureizing the barrle?

The valve seals off the barrel from the pressure. You pressurize the area behind the piston (sealing it to the barrel), and the chamber (the air that you use to force the projectile out of the barrel). When you release the pressure behind the piston, it slams back, letting the chambered air out of the barrel.

Alot more then to buy one, unless you have detailed blue prints and a lathe.

Isnt it relativly cheap to make your own piston valve? I mean people here do it all the time, so why is it so much to replicate this one particular one?

Because its like Joel's supah, its built with a lathe and its built for performance, Unlike a homemade one where it might seal good but could be too heavy or goes back to far etc the Mauler is probably very light,only moves back as far as it needs to,easily accessable,reapirable,seals well etc. Ask sgort as he made the valve.
