poor man's machining

this is my idea for quick machining (when you don't have proper tools)

Make slits in the last couple inches of the barrel, shape them like a spiral. Any suggestions? please comment.

sorry guys, i put up a picture but it didn't show up./

you need to upload it to imageshack or photobucket or soemthing first. then press "img" then put in the url and click "img/" again.

anyway, it might work a little, but how would you get it to stay?

get it to stay? I meant putting actual slits with a knife or something at the end of the barrel, that way the projectile would would get some spin while it is leaving the barrel.

i get it, i thought you ment accually cutting the end with a hacksaw or something, then twist all the strands.

how's the projectile going to bite into the slits? have a look >>here<< for some "poor man's rifling" ideas ;)

your right, my bad

how about slitting it as i explained before and just covering the outside with tape or coupling or something like that? I think that would work>

*i just got an idea* how about if i make spiral marks on the PROJECTILE? as air pushes it, won't it get in the slits of the projectile and push it AND SPIN IT?

i'M Just thinking of ways to rifle hard steel and copper. Because it is really hard.

you could just go with helical scratches like im going to do. it should give a small degree of better accuracy but other than that theres not much one can do without proper facilities.

to drill a hole i pvc i hit it with a nail until it got big enough that i could get the screw tightened in with a vice. worked too i cant get em out.

You could always cut a couple of very thin flaps and bend them inwards very slightly.

So along with a bit of spin you get a better muzzle blast as the potato flies through the shredder at the end of the barrel ^_^

It's probably a much easier option to develop a standardised method of making spin or drag stabilised projectiles that will be accurate from a smoothbore barrel

how about a combination of this type of projectile and this type of fin?

how about arrow bolts? you can buy them premade or you can make them out of bought parts like me, i used my old (slightly)bent aluminum bolts, made them about 150-200mm long put a sabot on the back, made sure the balance was front heavy and whola! i have rifled ammo.

if you're using a 3/4 inch barrel, here's some quick and easy slugs you can make.
