Heineken mini keg

i was just reading about the new 5L Heineken mini keg, thinking it'd b cool because everyone could have one at a party... but thats not what this is about. BTW.... this is different then most mini kegs because it comes pressurized with co2, rather than just being a gravity pour.

I was actually wondering if this had potential for a chamber on a pneumatic. It seems a lot more portable to have a 12" dia x 11" chamber, than 61" of 4" PVC (if my calculations are correct).

Now, my first plan was to just get one and epoxy a shrader or a quick disconnect on top, but i decided that i didn't like the idea of becoming embedded with metal shrapnel

Does any one have some input as to the max pressure on these things? Or am i just going to have to put this think behind a couple pieces of plywood and slowly turn up the pressure?

Well it stores co2 so it has to be pressure rated pretty high.

does the co2 use a regulator? if so what does it say to set it too.

Pop cans and bottles are pressurized with CO2 for the carbonation also, so I can't imagine this mini keg being rated any higher.
And think about it. How much pressure would it really need to squirt a stream of beer out of the little built in tap? Maybe a half a pound to a pound at the most. So I don't think these will be real thick, heavy duty things.

Depends, if the keg is almost empty and it is still shooting beer out like a water gun then there must of been a fair amount of pressure to begin with. You should try and measure the pressure inside a brand new one, just hold it upside down and duct tape a pressure gauge to it or something.

Careful not to spill any, thats good stuff in there lol.

Well i know those beer things.. believe me there not really thick 1mm aluminum Co2 is regulated from a cartrige..
Ive cutted one into 2 pieces and there was a second cartrige for pressure,
I would try it as a pneumatic it will blow in your face!
Cheers :)

i think you could. but remember alot of the time co2 is stored in liquid form and is notorious for wrecking valves and freezing hands. just be careful is all im saying.

Co2 is only liquid when you get to high pressures - I really can't see it being a liquid at 100psi....

I wouldn't use it in all honestly. You only need a few psi pressure difference to move a liquid.

Kegs are cast and so they can easily be flawed.

Depending on where you live you can sell them for 20-30 bucks....

Call up heineken and ask them, that's what I did when I looked for propane purity at bernz-o-matic lol.

From what f.c. was saying, and what cannonball was saying, and using your own common sense I wouldn't attempt to use that keg for anything, except waking up in a hot chicks house. If you catch my drift. lol

Theres still that part of me that wants to try, so next time i need some brew ill get one of these babies.

I was reading on the Heineken web site that the keg would provide an "even flow from first pour to last" so my guess is that there is some sort of co2 tank/regulator in side that keeps the keg at a constant pressure. If nothing else, i may be able to score a cheap co2 regulator
