Triggered burst disk idea

I'm only posting this because I haven't seen it anywhere else. Maybe I just haven't searched enough..

Well, I was thinking of using some kind of pin that goes through a hole in the barrel just before the burst disk union. I was thinking it could be sealed with JB weld/epoxy and while it was drying you would move the pin back and forth to make it dry with a groove for the pin to move back-n-forth. Maybe I'm just insane to thing that would seal. oh well. heres what I'm talking about:

Have you made a burst disc gun? A good burst disc, one that can hold at least 90 psi, will be hard to puncture without violently stabbing it. Poking at it might weaken it enough to burst eventually, but it's really not worth it.

what if you spring-loaded it?

im sure if you jabbed it with 50 pounds with a nail it would pop....

Why not connect a blowgun with hose leading fronm the chamber to the inside of the barrel? The blowgun could have a small barrel attached with a nail in it. To shoot, open the blowgun. It would launch the nail down at the disc.
Much more fun! And loads more work... :?

Ha, thats a first! A pnuematic cannon triggered by another!

No, because it would still be the first. The blowgun would have a hose connected to the same chamber as the burst disc. It would be a pilot valve, in a way.

Oh, I just meant that the "pilot valve" is actually a nail gun. But if they share the same chamber than I guess it doesn't count.

Why is this in the How-To forum? Should it not be in the Pneumatic Discussion?

This is what the precharged 20 ounce co2 bottles use. It has a cap that punctures the thin metal cap as you screw it in. On the bottles this causes the metal cap to only have a small punture wound. I do not know what would have if the peice of metal was not welded in place, which is what you would most likely be using.

Why not just have a burst disk that ruptures at the proper pressure? I mean, if you're going to set all this crap up you might as well just mod a sprinkler valve.

Hi,

Hehe, make a burst disk mortar, with something on the back end of the shells to rupture the diaphragm? Could be cool

Your projectile would have to fall down the barrel fast and heavy enough to puncture the disk.
Maybe a loose fitting lead slug with a nail in the bottom would work
