If you're sleeving your barrel inside another, larger pipe, here's an idea.
1.) Get some clear 1-1/2" PVC. If money isn't that much of a problem, this will contribute to the overall effect of kickassness...
2.) Get a drill with a 1/2" bit. I'm pretty sure you or somebody you know has one.
3.) Borrow or get you a Dremel tool with a sanding attachment.
I'm pretty sure you get the idea by now. Buy two 3x1-1/2" reducing couplings, (not pressure rated, but in this case they're just structural and for looks). Grind out the stops inside of them so 1-1/2" pipe can slide all the way through.
Attach whatever fitting you are going to be using for attachment of the barrel to your cannon. In most cases, this is a 2" male adapter for a 1-1/2" barrel, because you can make this combination breech loading, (have a look at my web site if you're confused there. I've got pics on how to do it. It's the little "www" button at the bottom of this post).
Slide the reducing coupling, 3" end last, over the end of the barrel and push all the way down to the bottom, (fitting). The 1-1/2" side of the coupling should be flush against the 2" adapter, and the 3" side should be pointing towards the end of the barrel. Push the coupling up a little, apply some glue, (don't have to worry about primer since it's just for looks), and push back down.
Cement the other 3x1-1/2" reducing coupling onto an end of the 3" pipe you'll be using. Hold it next to the barrel and mark what length you need to cut the 3" pipe to get the end of the barrel flush to the end of the 1-1/2" side of the reducing coupling on the 3" pipe. Cut, and cement into place.
Drill 1/2" holes in a predictable and orderly pattern over the 3" pipe. It'd probably be best to mark the holes with pencil first so you don't make a stupid mistake you can't fix.
Voila. This would be great for night shots. Each hole should light right up when firing, because of the clear barrel inside the 3" pipe.
Or, of course, you could just sleeve the 1-1/2" inside of some 2" SCH-80, (you can get the conduit stuff at Home Depot, since it won't be holding any pressure). This would allow for more rigidity to the barrel, and you can still do the whole hole thing.
