Ghetto combustion ignition

i'm currently making a ghetto combustion (well kind of) and i have one of the candle lighting things (the ones with the onboard butane and trigger) but i was wondering if there were any other ghetto-er ignition sources because using the candle lighter would mean taking it off my 1l ghetto combustion :(

Thanks Alasdair

edit: i forgot the specs! it will be made from 1.5" 16bar pvc with a 15mm copper barrel and the endcaps and reducers will be wood (woo ghetto 8) ) and i will use tape to seal them as i have no way of cutting a perfect 1.5" disc :(

bump! i was also wondering if there is a way to transfer the spark to the chamber with a 'long nosed' candle lighter without having it inside the chamber? and would i be able to mod it to remove the 'long nose' and just have the trigger part?

thanks Alasdair

From what I can recall, the spark in one of those lighters goes from the center to the outside wall. You may can carefully solder a thin wire to these pieces then insulate them to put the spark where you want it.

It would seem easier, however, just to disassemble the lighter. You should be able to do so and leave the handle in tact.

And why would you have to take it off your other launcher? Can you not just purchase another one?

i did some searching on piezo electric wand lighter thingys and i probably will take it apart and hopefully it will still work afterwards  and i'm not gonna be able to buy another for a while and it spoils the ghetto factor 8) now i just need a ghetto way to get the fuel in, i will probably use a plug vent like on Gort's blue flame and _Fnord's cardboard cannon.

presenting...THE GHETTO-EST IGNITION DEVICE EVER DEVISED sure it will be annoying but it will be amazingly ghetto

thanks for the link but i have ripped apart my candle wand lighter thingy and stolen the piezo electric part which i am mounting in the pistol grip of one of my brothers toy guns which he doesn't know i have borrowed yet :D

and yet another question, how big should i make the spark gap in my chamber and are piezo sparker thingys capable of multiple sparks?

edit: oooh one more thing... whats a good chamber:barrel ratio for a spray and pray combustion?

bump! come on guys i really need an answer because i am planning to build it today specificaly what size of spark gap and can i make two spark gaps when i'm using piezo electric ignition? and for the c:b ratio i'm gonna go with 1:1?

A normal small piezo can do at least 2 sparks in seris, but they wold have to be small for a hot spark. I think your best bet would be a single spark close together (2mm?).
If you use a fan, i doubt you will need more than 1 spark.
I heard the best c:b ratio is 1:.8, or maybe the opposite? :o

Damn this thing sounds dangerous and not or anyone standing down range from it.
From the sounds of it mate your building someting that may remove your fingers! and as a some one that works in helth care i strongly advise against this, as fingers are realy handy things to have.
Plus it realy hurts when there removed with out anistetic and for no god damn good reason.
anyways mate best of luck

it shoudn't be too dangerous :D , less dangerous than a coke bottle combustion as my pipe is rated for 217psi and the wooden reducer and endcap aren't that dangerous either, i will put alot of screws in to keep the reducer and barrel in place and the endcap will use a twist-lock system which should be strong (i hope)

edit: i also saw wooden endcaps used in a mazzive combstion once which didn't fail so i doubt my spray and pray combustion will....

don't worry, we all have our moments 8) and i would have to have a pretty big moment to hold a combustion together with tape :D

Oh dang thats gotta suck!!

Yeah read in the paper the other day that a youth was invoved in home made fire arm production. He was serverly injured and a few on lookers walked away with cuts and abratins when one of his home made fire arms back fired and exploded showering on lookers with shrapnal......

Now......put your hand up if this has happened to you?

2nd question how big and what the hell was he using if when it went wrong it was enough to serverly injure him and on lookers?

3rd dont you just love the way the press words things?
I woulda wrote...... Some young F@%K witt got his head blown off when he was bein a bit of a D@&K head in front of his mates as a result some of his mates got owned. WHAT A MORON!!
