This is a old BBQ lighter i found lying around.i thought it was a piezo so i took it apart. but it turns out to be a weird type of lighter. The red thing in the attachment contains inside 2 cylender things that i think are made of metal. i don't no if u can see it but there is also a gold wire sticking out.

can you guys plse help me out.

From what your description and the picture, this supposed "lighter" could not have functioned to produce a spark. You must be missing some pieces.

it is a lighter by Brabantia and i tested it before i took it apart and it did produce a spark.

Huh, that's strange...must analyze...

Edit: Hrm, do you think mabye those cylinder things are batteries, and it's just a little transformer? Any visible circuitry?

It is either something that produces a spark only, with no flame, or you are missing pieces because I don't see a butane canister on it. (Unless what I thing is the piezo is really the butane tank)

i am 100% sure i have no missing pieces and is has no visibale circuitry

I got a science lab lighter with looks something like that. The metal thing contains the peizo. Think of it as a giant one. Apparently, you have to use it(the whole unit) as one. will post a pic of mine if i can find another lighter.

is that metal thing flint? grab a knife and point blade towrd yous and stroke it going away from you, does this make it spark?

no, there's something in it that hits it (its a giant peizo, remember). there's no flint, just a crystal.

peizos work by having that 'crystal' hit with force which sends out a shock of elec basically. if you look closely at a norm 1 when you push down u can see that you keep pushing and pushing until the little notch thing cant take it and slips off which allows it to strike the 'crystal'.

if this is a piezo electric ignitor then it must work in a similar fashion.

also you can get these sort of things without fuel, i have one called a sparker wand, no fuel just a spark for lighting gas stoves.

I once got one of those!
Its a lighter wich ONLY SPARKS (no flame), made to ignite gas stoves.
Its a piezo but instead of producing a spark by slamming the piezo its a bit different.
It makes sparks by squeezing the crystal.
This way it makes alot of sparks on both the squeeze and also when it unsqueezes to its original form.

The fun is, that when the spark gap is small, it gives like 20 small sparks on a squeeze.
And if the gap is large it gives just a few sparks on the squeeze.

My combustion cannon is ignited with one if these.
I dont think it are the best things to ignite with but it does work.
It sparks once per squeeze (and also one time when I release it)

yeah used that one too it works fine for combustion and you can also make the wires to screws and then insert the screws

it btw doesn't give one spraks but 5-10 in one push :D but psycix said already something like this

can either sniper hero or psycix plse tell me how to connect one of these to screws so i can make my ignition becuase it has no button. i don't even no how to put it bak 2gether
