the design is not to scale, but its pretty simple... i don't think it needs an explination

You have to make it all patato and other vegtables besides the ignition, other wise it cant be called a papato gun, i like the carrot idea.

to be honest, i think i'm gonna have to use some 6mm id aluminium tube as the barrel because vegetables produce too much friction... i just tested the idea (mucked around with my deodorant and a potatoe (and some cups* ) and i think its going to work... but i'll need a large potatoe chamber, so therefore i'll also need a wooded endcap because to get a good potatoe one, it would need to be thick and therefore take up chamber space...

* i got two plastic cups, put them on their sides facing each other about 1cm apart... sprayed a fair amount of deodorant in and ignited with a wand lighter... very fun indeed.. although nearling burning my hand wasn't :D (ahh making flames is so fun 8) )

You could try to cook the patato by the end(after repeated combustions), then make a new oen and cook it again...

I'm sorry Ali, am I missing something here ...are you actually thinking about using a hollowed out potato as a chamber?? and then actually injecting fuel and air into it....and then actually lighting it?...

Why?? Sounds really Wile E Coyote to me man..... I've seen way to much potato salad being made from spud gun ammo to come anywhere close to using a potato as a chamber.

Must be bored, in a major kinda way. Promise us you will video the entire testing from start to finish so we don't miss anything.

We need to write a book, "101 ways to make potato salad".

Well, to be honest, it's an immature and a typical Jackass (the show) type thing to do. You and I and fence post all know the potato chamber is going to blow into chunks and potato vapor. It certainly isn't going to extend the state-of-the-art of spud gunning.

If you want to blow up a potato for fun, by all means, knock yourself out. Just don't try to present it here as a serious cannon.

It sounds pretty cool, just make sure your electrodes don't blow out into your face.

The worst that could happen is to catch a piece of potato in your eye as the gun chamber fails.

I recommend to keep the chamber diameter to a minimum to prevent failing.

It would make a nice average addition to youtube. Another pointless, useless video which is watched by people who are really bored and has tons of replies containing nothing more then "LOL", "OMG ROFLMAO" or synonyms.

I still think a hunk of Asiago cheese would be a better chamber material :D

I'm with everyone with an IQ in general on this.

Depending on the ammo size, I think it would blow up

Starman, you need to lighten up. Seriously. Part of the spudgun spirit is creating something cool out of materials that arent intended for it. I am sure people inventing pvc never thought "You know, this draining water thing is sweet, but I bet I could fire a marble out of this pipe faster than a bb gun."

I love to see a really nice and polished spudgun as much as the next guy, but I also like to see something new and different. Even if its not the most powerful or effecient.

Its a lot like my brothers asking me "Dude, why dont you just go out and buy a 300 winmag or something like that? They are way more powerful and about the same price as all you put into yours." The only answer I can come up with is "Because its badass and I can do it."

On another note, I have made a mini out of a pill bottle with a pop off lid. the lid never opened during firing. I seriously doubt a mini combustion produces enough ooomph to blow up a potato.

There is probably about 4 square inches of area on the walls of the ''CHAMBER'' and at about 40psi spray and pray combustion well do the math.
You can tell how awesome a cannon is by the pressure used.
