I have had two Husky air regulators crap out on me recently. They are the ones from Home Depot with the plastic adjustment knob. Until I can find one that holds up better or cough up the cash for a nice pricy bulk tank regulator I've simply eliminated it by installing a T with the old gauge in it. Because my meeter tube is twice the size of my tube running from the tank I simply shut the valve when the system hits the desired pressure. Any one else having problems with these valves? And is there a problem with the setup I am currently running? Any comments would be appreciated.

I use them all the time, haven't had much trouble with them...one gauge go bad I think...I just replaced the gauge.

There's not much to go bad on these things except the gauge. What happened to yours?

Thanks for the typo correction, I'me having a bad typing / grammar day. The odd thing is that the gauge itself works fine, its just that the internals of the regulator must have gone bad. As you know, when you back pressure down the vent to the outside, no problem. But the two i had would do nothing but vent no matter what I did with the adjustment knob.

Did they come that way from Home Depot? If so, I would take them back and have them replaced.

So closing them down all way had no effect?

No they worked fine for a wile, no problems at all. They were being stored at room temperature so freezing was not an issue. Picked up the cannon to do some testing and had propane venting every were once I opened the tank valve. I removed that regulator and swapped in one I was using to test another project I started, that one did the same thing. I don't know what the heck went wrong with them. Do you see any problem with just running the T fitting with a gauge and shutting the valve at the desired pressure?

Sorry and to answer your question shutting the valve shut it off like it should. The moment the valve was opened a little though it vented instantly with no change in the pressure on the gauge, do the fact that it was direct venting I guess.

Nope that's how you're supposed to do it, although I would tend to put the external gauge closer or as part of the meter rather than right after the regulator.

Lately, I've just been using a quick connect screwed directly to the regulator as a fill device for my meter syringes.

I was thinking of doing a setup like the one you use on Triple Thunder. I had a quick disconnect on it but it was bargain priced and leaked badly. The T and gauge are hooked directly into the first ball valve on my meeter, the same place the regulator was, I think I may just stay with this arrangement or perhaps a syringe sort of affair but i go through so much propane on the Bettie that I can kill a Fat Boy tank in a afternoon. So its almost like the tank is the syringe .

Sorry to kick up an old thread. I am still having problems with the Husky regulators. Am I the only one? The regulator in question was working great for a wile then it craped out. It will vent any propane entering it to the outside no matter what the pressure is supposed to be set at. On the other hand if i hook the regulator up to my compressor it works just fine. Is this a case of the propane tank not moving enough volume to make the regulator work properly? Any words of wisdom would be great.
