Who's got a good story about there gun blowing up during firing. I know i do. I was building my first combustion gun a couple weeks ago and when i was putting the pieces together and i used purple primer thinking it was the glue. I took it to my moms house to show them and shoot it there. My grandmother wanted to see fire so we both went outside to shoot a tree. Well i got to shoot it 3 times before she exploded. The pressure blow the clean out fitting plus broke the chamber and blew the screw in cap threw one side of my moms house, threw and threw. Good news was i was able to save the 80mm fan, but the bad news was that i bruised my ribs and a piece hit my grandmother in the chest. But were all right, we got a good laugh out of it. So i learned from my mistakes and rebuilt my gun and used the right glue, plus jb weld and bolts so it works and performs great!

Now that's a first. It always seems to be the other way around...forget the primer remember the glue. Not forget the glue!

Glad you're alright.

Agreed. I've never heard of someone not using glue on a cannon. But don't fret. Everyone makes mistakes. Hell, I forgot to put the cap on the back once when I fired one of mine. It burned a hole through my shirt.

In the High School engineering competition, one of the cannons blew during the Trailbalzers / LA Clippers game at the Rose Garden Arena. The video is a little long. On the third round of launches the 2 barrel with center chamber blows. It blows at 5 mins 3 secs. Watch carefully. The chamber comes out of the middle into the audience. The 3 parts remaining on the floor are the 2 barrels and the manifold with the 2 sprinkler valves. The chamber from the middle made it into the seats.

Recoil torqued the joints and popped off the chamber and both barrels.

At the end the announcer gets the wrong team announced and the student with the phone cam has a choice thing to say about it. :D

This is a failure from the torque over stressing the PVC joints from recoil. This is not a glue failure. The chamber made it to the second row and landed sideways so it was caught with no audience injury. The student firing it had a split open thumb.

I helped the team on the end with the yellow cannon. :D They won.

hah i got one. i was making my 4" 3"port piston cannon, and i was using homedepot glue, turns out that stuff is intended for up to 2" pipe and not for high pressures, as in nothing over 60psi ish

so my uncle hooked it up, and it exploded at the joints, shooting the chamber about 30 feet, and smashing the barrel/piston assembly into his leg

he was not happy

The pressure chamber of my first pneumatic gun was one of these aluminium drink bottles which no standard fitting fits in properly.

Well, it got loose at 120psi and hit my knee. I was laying on the ground my ears were beeping and it hurt so bad that I thought my knee was shattered.

I never used the bottle again...
