There are a number of people on this forum who would gladly be responsible for this sort of action, however it comes to a point sometimes where one doesn't know where to start

I have been. My school used to put up signs outside the exam hall that said: "Silence Exams".

I got involved with actually adding some punctuation to them to avoid the declaration that students were being tested on their ability to remain quiet.

well when you think about about it a spud gun does have the capacity of seriously injurying or even killing a person. Cause of the simplicty of the contrustion and the amazing price to contsruct and maintain this device, no wonder some countries consider this a firearm and want to confiscate anyone who owns a spud gun dozen't' have a firearm licence. cause well i wouldn't want a spud gun in the wrong hands and i guess the only ppl the police can trust is one who has a firearms license.

But thats just my opinion on the subject,anyway if you live in Australia spud gun is classified as a 'E" class weapon which means this device is in a pretty serious catergory .

I dont think you will get in trouble with the cops if you are firing this thing out of city limits like in the country somewhere . If you caught firing this at anything other than a object you brought or just firing into the sky you could be charged but i haven't had any trouble with the police so far , but i havent firing my spud at anythign else than the ground,air or just a piece of wood.

even if u are caught fireing it in the country its still a public place not private land,which is frouwnd upon and u will be charged ,with posses/use a prohibited weapon without permit and possess in public place non-firearm for
discharging irritant

Update...
I spoke with Mr. X at the ATF today and he is passing us along to the Duty Technician in West Virginia who will have final say. Mr. X did watch our youtube videos, reviewed our product and stated "I don't see any problem with marketing your spudguns and your rounds". He also doubts we will receive a different opinion from the Duty Technician.

Next step is approval from state attorney generals.

Post more once I talk to DT tomorrow.

It's good to know that the authorities have some common sense. If you can get away with metal tipped rounds, I can get away with my glorified tennis ball nerf gun.

Take it from someone thats been down the road with the law and spudguns in Australia,it's no fun and the legal system isn't either.

It wasn't my sentence it was a friends,and lucky he had cash and a nice judge.He was looking at a few years.Although,he didn't mind shooting it in public....Brought upon himself really.

But it's better of to avoid it all together then go down the path if possible.

It can go like this if all goes wrong.

Charges:
-Possesion of Illegal Firearm
-Possesion of Unregistered Firearm
-Firearms Not securely Stored
-Discharging of illegal firearm in built up areas/public property

Thats just to name a few,they can be really nasty about it if they want.

Several things in that statement bother me. Does "launching Potatos" include GB's? Would they still consider it to be "recreational purposes" if they thought you could :

launch a 1.375" steel ball bearing (300psi carbon dioxide) through 5 sheets of 3/4", 5 ply, plywood @ 6" apart, travel down range another 100', completely pass through a 16" hay bale then continue another 400' further down range before plowing into the ground?

NOTE: I'm not saying I can or have done this.....It's just a question.

That's a good point. A 1x combustion is one thing, but a high mix hybrid that can break the sound barrier and then some with a led slug is quite another.

I'm not against the higher powered spud cannons (I want to build a hybrid in a little while myself), but I would definitely be careful of where and what I was shooting with it.

I think this quote is from the ATF letter? I've been working to answer these questions for the benefit of everyone and the problem lies with the state law more than feds.
