I've been very excited to share the Blue Flame's 3rd generation with you guys. :D I've really really really enjoyed this launcher since I finished it a couple weeks ago. This has to be the most streamlined standard combustion cannon ever made. I say standard streamlined because the most streamlined is probably my proton pack.

<a href="http://www.launchpotatoes.com/images/BF ... .JPG"><img src="http://www.launchpotatoes.com/images/BF ... s.JPG"></a>
(Click for closeup. Click again for extreme closeup.)

I wanted to keep to the theme of a REAL spud cannon for this contest. No stupid little marble guns or a hybrid. No gigantic gun. Just a standard spud gun, except all the bells and whistles you will ever need while still maintaining a very professional and streamlined look. I wanted people to look at it and think "it looks so plain and simple". Little do they know, I've got EVERYTHING on this and then some. It's just so well-hidden! I think I found what I was looking for.

Watch the video for details!

Here's a small list of the Blue Flame III's features:

-Regulated onboard propane metering with one-touch injection. (PCGUY, you said you wanted a new metering method, well you got it.)

-All compression hoses. No more messy fittings. It's all very compact and neat.

-Propane bottle holders with set screws.

-Clear combustion chamber.

-Blue 4-LED fan

-Clear pistol-grip handle with ALL the electronics and controls inside it which includes the power supply, the on/off switch, ignition button, and the stun gun. The electronics are all neatly concealed in there and are not exposed anywhere as they pass right into the chamber under the pipe saddle.

-NO hose clamps ANYWHERE. This gun has all of its components mounted with screws. No ugliness to be found.

-Custom designed and dremelled flame pipe saddle. (Damn that's sexy.)

-Latke-style air vent. This is an improvement from the Blue Flame II's quick-vent ball valve which was a 2" ball valve mounted to a cleanout cap. It was nice before, but it looks a hell of a lot nicer now and it works much faster and better. The vent is basically a plunger that you push in to vent or pull out to seal shut.

-Threaded street elbows on the back. This allows for access to the back if ever needed and perfect barrel alignment. It also brings the barrel closer to the chamber.

-Double-locking cam locks for easy barrel switching and breech loading. With over a dozen barrels for this gun, it's a must have. Well, let's face it, if I had only one barrel, I'd still have cam locks. :D

All these things together makes for an unreal rate of fire. In the video you see me taking the gun's first shots ever. That would explain my little regulator tweaking and such. Also, it was a bit different than the Blue Flame II. It took some getting used to.

Wow,I love that two touch injection, camlocks are always a winner.I think we got a real contender here! That propane injection is great.

Do you really get into pneumatics or just combustion?

Sorry for the slow reply as you IMed me the link several hours ago, and just now I am getting around to replying.

Noice launcher. Lot of things I like, just a few I don't.

I think what sets the launcher off the most is the propane metering system. Like your thinking on both the compression fitting/ hose, and the 3-way valve. The 3-way valve for metering has floated around for quite a while, just not to often implemented, and never with a lever I recall. The lever simplifying even the already simple 3-way ball valve. Like the compression fittings, and hose. Seems like the propane tank, regulator, metering pipe, and valves in a propane metering system are always a fixed solid mass. Really nice idea to incorporate the flexible tubing to allow for the fixture to be mobilized in separate sections.

Liking the no hose clamp look as well. Any system to cleanly implemented them seemed to clutter up the launchers appearance. Appears the rings for the propane cylinder holder were secured with screws, and the handled connected to the glued PVC "flame" decal. Tight over-under arrangement is nice, as always. Both aesthetically, and in operation.

Just a few things I don't like. Really don't like the fact that the "Latke" style venting system just dangling in the "vent" state. Also the PVC "flame" decal. Provided I have yet to see flame decals implemented in a fashion that is appealing. Also the wavy form, and flow of the flames doesn't conform to the "streamline", and primary horizontal flow. Besides that I be lovin'.

RNA, I believe it is only takes a single "touch". ("press" might be a better description) When the button is pressed, the "input", and "meter" would be connected. Then on the levers release the "meter", and "chamber" are connected. Or so I think... (I think when he pressed the lever several times in the videos, he just established how it was done... several times)

Pimp-Well it seems like it is pressed twice before a firing in the video, from my point of view.Gort can you resolve this matter before we are forced to duel?

I do like that Latke venting style is great, but agreeing with pimp in how it just hangs there.Couldn't a simple piece of tube or piping be put in place to stop if from dandling and making the movement more smooth and with out that grinding scratching sound.

Not trying to rip on you, just some things that could get an improvement.

Great job on the cannon again.

very good job there.........personlly i don't like flames when it comes to decerating in any form, flames are to overused, makes cars, spudguns ect look worse..........but dont get me wrong that doest change the cannon :D

Intriguing. I especially find the no-hose-clamp look to be the best.

P.S. - I didn't watch the video because YouTube won't let me.

Thanks guys. Glad you like it.

The meter is a single touch. When in the up position, the tank and pipe are connected. When pressed, the pipe and chamber are connected. Pretty much as simple as that. So the meter is normally pressurized so I don't have to wait for it to pressurize when injecting. All I do is press and release. Yes, I was just demonstrating it a few times in the video.

The reason the vent makes that "scratching" sound is because the rod in the center is threaded the whole way and its guide on the ouitside is a strip of metal. The scratching is gonna happen because of the metal on metal and it's not actually bad for its functioning. But I might get some solid rod and thread it myself so that section is smooth.

About its dangling, as I mentioned to Pimp over AIM, there's no way of making it stay straight without a mess of guide components which would take up more space than being practical and would require a lot of rearrangement inside and outside the chamber. It works well as is. I'm pleased at least.

You must have seen my pneumatic work. (Mauler Valves maybe?) I like to get into both. Pneumatic just have so much power behind it.

If I had to pick one though, It's combustion. For a combustion I never need an air compressor or expensive pressure supplies. Combustions are fully portable and they are SO much cooler! Think about it. Clear chambers, stun gun ignition, having propane strapped to it, the LED fan...
