I have a rechargable 9.6v NiCd battery pack from a R/C car.Would this work?

It should work just fine, though expect a little less performance for using less than 12 volts. I've put 2 9volt batteries in series on a computer fan with increased performance but I don't know how long the fan will last doing that.

 but the only thing I want from the fan is thatit vents under 10 seconds. by the way, how do I top my fan from moving when ignition occours? my friends just blewbackwards and was damaged.

that is what great about electric motors. you can make them run off of as many volts and amps as you want them too, as long as you keep it cool.

so you could run it at 50 volts, or at 1 volt. its up to you. just remember that if it gets too hot, it wont work.

you can get 12 volt batteries if you want.Just mod those wires coming out of the battery i.e. Cut them before they get to that plug thing and go from there.
(im not really an electronics expert)

OMG 1kg? I don't want any unnessacary weight. but since hi said that electric motors can run off as many volts, I'm probably sticking to my 9.6 pack. by the way I saw these RC battery packs of 15v but they have 3 wires. How do I wire them?

im sure you've already sorted this out, but I run my 12v fan off an ever ready 9v heavy duty battery($3.50 Aud from go-lo) It works fine, vents the 4" x 22" chamber in about 5 seconds and mixes the fuel in about 3 seconds. It just doesn't run the fan flat out, which is no big drama and its light weight.

As for getting the fan inside the chamber, I just packed the corners of the fan with crumpled duct tape to form lumps in the corners, then taped them down. Its an extremely tight fit and you dont have to go drilling extra holes into you're chamber with this method.

Starting voltage for many computer fans is 7v, below that it won't even start. It's best to keep the maximum voltage under 13.5v, else the electronics inside will fry
