I love that video as well. There are 2 things I noticed that were extra noteworthy:
1. The second camera shows the material on the pallet sitting to the side of the cannon. Notice the concussion moving nearly everything on the pallet quite a ways- what a blast!
2. The shrapnel and other material (sabot) are seen to penetrate the wood target before the slug. Not remarkable, but very interesting to see in slow motion.

Another note: an alternative to traditional grapeshot: Create slugs with a softer casing / shell / jacket so that when they strike the target they blow apart... this would be great in melon shots. This way you can keep the "accuracy" and distance while still inflicting massive damage. Not a new idea, but something that would not be unreasonable for our hobby.

Today i machined a prototype of a Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot round. (APFSDS) projectile, its made out of steel and designed to fit into the 20mm barrel.
This one is only a quick test so the dimensions is a bit of and its missing the plastic sabot. Hopefully i will have time to machine the real ones during the weekend.

[expletive]

HOLY COW

Damn man, I can't wait to see some penetration shots with that beast. It looks NASTY.

Also, it's an APFSDS, Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot round. You forgot the fins when you classified it. Also, you may wish to harden the tip and leave the rest of the round softer.

Holy crap that looks awesome. Some of the best machining I've seen. What I would give to have tools like that at my disposal not to mention the skill. How long did that take to make? How much does it weigh?

Seaking stole my comment.... Holy Cow!! Larda, you're going to have trouble finding worthy target material man. What pray tell were you planning on shooting with this beast?

Since you're going install it in a sabot, maybe you could mill a slight twist on the fins to induce some spin.

It was once said that his hybrid had the firepower to knock out a Panzer II, so I think that may have given Larda a few too many ideas....

Today i also made a prototype for the sabot.
There is some changes i will make in the final version, the arrow will be longer, the fins a bit thinner and i will also make some modifications to the sabot to reduce weight and make the separation from the arrow easier.
