Semi-Hybrid?

Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

This is continued from my successful hijack of JSR's topic :D

I'd post a proper description of what this is, but all the info is in JSR's thread and I've really got to get off the PC and study for some exams, so I'll leave you with some pictures and a nice cosy thread to discuss them in :wink:

See if you can figure out why I'm getting increased power from a mix that won't ignite from a piezo spark because it's so far off optimum, and whether it's fragments of aluminium which are rupturing the disk, or the pressure spike from a small, bright arc in a very small chamber.

The AA battery is just for scale.

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

It seems it might be a cool way to ignite really high mixes

250PSI and a double thickness burst disk... and now it only goes off with fuel, not with air... It's still a pretty rich mix (~5.8% butane or so), but it is a bona fide hybrid!

Can see why you test it in the toilet, with that kind of muzzle flash I'd be crapping myself too :roll: :D

:D

It's the only room with nothing too expensive in it! Though my first test shot into the towels scared me a little... I half expected to pull them back and see a shattered tile :roll:

EDIT: And of course, the real main reason why I test stuff there is that of all of the rooms in my house, it's the only one that's relatively non-flammable. :D

cool looking setup, simple but effective. I was wondering if you could get a video of the aluminum foil doing whatever it does outside of the chamber

Even better, here's a long exposure photo of what's happening within...

Wow, that photo is downright spectacular!
Do not look back, and grieve over the past, for it is gone;
Do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come;
Live life in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

Why thank you! :D

The thing pictured is actually my old drinking straw ETG, minus the barrel/chamber/drinking straw. I've got some more pictures in the same vein that I could upload later.

Yeah that really is a great picture, similar to the one in your avatar. What exactly is the one in your avatar?
