If you keep the spark gap small it will be ok right up to 30x at least.

Less. As small as you can make it; that's how I have mine anyway.

Sorry for double post but i think i might have a duff igniter :( I think i am doign it right, and have tryed many new and old batterys 1.5v and some rechargable 1.2v ones, Can somone with one of these see if im doign it right?

Pictures from eee pc webcam... sorry

This is where the battery goes in - the half metal ring connects to the inner ring
Image

Wire gets locked onto the half ring by plastic nut
Image

Button screws on, spring makes contact with the inner ring and when button is pressed the + side of the aaa battery is connected to it (the ring - and the wire i attached)
Image

On the bottom the end of the wire is placed close to the output. Button is pressed and nothing happens at all, no noise, no spark.

Please help
