Colder air is more dense, so it will have more O2. Sure, you could chill the air before injecting it, but it would possibly make PVC pipe more brittle. So, simply inject MORE air. This is easier, and since pressure increases the burn rate, it would actually make an ever so slight increase in performance.

Holy f_ck balls!!!!

Intercollers only boot performance by about 15 to 20 % so for what you spend on them and the added weight on your car theres not much bang for buck

Now its a known fact that in a supercharger you have to spray metho or glycol on the intake as when the air gets moving it can freeze up the intake butterflys.
Im guna get banned for my first post, but this thread is unbelievable. The fact none of the older members have commented here, assures me this forum and most spud chuckers are younger then 16yo :)

There are so many fundamental misunderstanding of physics, I thought u guys were joking!!!

#1 - 4.7sec of Google searching would solve all your questions.

jrrdw - Air does indeed heat up as you compress it. Its cold when it comes out of a compressed cylinder because its EXPANDING, and rapidly absorbing latent air heat energy around the expansion point. When the gas was initially being compressed into the cylinder, u can bet the fittings were getting warmer.
Case closed, for those f_cks that skipped school to deliver pizza’s, learn how to RESEARCH what you don’t know, hence Google.

Fuck me, I feel like a looser as I started trying to explain the errors in this thread, but then deleted it all, its completely not worth the time – this is ALL basic year 6 physics and automotive tech. Without blow my horn, I would know. Performance cars has been my life for 10 years (im 24) I own a 650hp R32 Skyline GTR, designed everything myself, have mates with 450HP 200SX, and 2 1000hp GTR’s. I know about latent heat carrying capacity, fuel mixing, pinging, pinking, detonation, plasma diffusion, tumble and swirl.
Air > Water IC’s don’t exist? You retard, Turbo Suby Liberty’s have it stock, as do dozens of other OEM cars. How can a cooler core, a radiator, pump and water = 30KG?

“Turbos SUCK compressed air from the motor” WTF, you just triple f_cked your self.

OMG, I came to this site looking for a tid bid of information to make my Cannon, and have come away feeling like an Australian genius. I’m going to show ALL my mates this thread, its unf_cking believable. Again, I blame the admins for not deleting this… oh the embarrassment to Americans.

Excuse me if I sound rude, but there are many of us on this thread admin or not that have already raised these errors to attention.

And yes, aussies are cool.

Sorry for bumping the dead thread once again.

I doubt you will be banned for that post spudchubb, although it would probably be a good idea to be a little more polite when your new to a forum. I can understand your frustration, I thought it was common knowledge that air heats as it is compressed. To whoever said that the reason a bike pump gets hot is friction, answer this. How come it is only the very bottom of the pump that heats up??? The rest of the tube still has the plunger moving through it at the same speed as the bottom, but only the bottom heats up. The reason is that the air only compresses enough to significantly heat up at the bottom of the pump's stroke.
If you want solid proof that air heats up when compressed and cools as pressure drops, pressurise an empty soda bottle with air and touch it. It will be warm. Then suddenly release the pressure while holding the bottle. It will get cooler.

True, though not enough ppl have kicked up some dust :) If i was a mod, i would make a StronG post. Working with pressures is dangerous and misunderstandings like this can kill. Have a mate that has a 12cm scar from mouth to ear from a malfunctioning spud chucker.

Aussies aren't cool, we just feel we haven't been swept up in the commercialism of some other country's. 0_o

Be well

bloody hell, well said. you just repeated what i said but in like 5 less posts and a lot clearer, maybe bubba will get it into his head now

aussie's aren't cool? now thats the only thing i have to pick on your post lol

now this thread is old, and all "misunderstandings" to my knowledge i believe have been cleared up before your post, so although your post was informational and summed up most of the stuff we said, it wasn't really needed.

anyways im pretty sure ya wont get banned, your new so well enjoy your stay? what cannons do you make? what are you planning to make?

peace

We don't delete threads around here because they have some incorrect information in them; we correct the incorrect information.

That said, yes:
1) This is a spudgun forum, not a car forum. Because of this, idiots who pretend to know stuff about cars go largely unchecked... because as a group we don't know much more about cars than the average person.

2) Some of the members on this forum are immensely stubborn, and sometimes people can't be bothered to correct their misunderstandings.

3) Yes, most of our members are young and uneducated.

There ought to be a topic specifically dedicated to science-related questions. The answers would be required to have a supplementary link. It'd be like the wiki, but more specific to certain situations. Thoughts?

I did the same thing, actually. If people couldn't figure out that air heats up as it is compressed, it wasn't worth my time explaining it.

All it this thread was about was running cooler air for a hybrid and now look at it.I myself am an aussie, don't own a car or a drivers licence due to legal issues etc,and I do not know loads of information just the basics. But I did know air gets hotter when it is compressed.
R32 GTR-nice car what boost you run it at?Forget internals I'm sure.

But back on topic, now the more power extracted from the hybrid from say running 0*c compressed air with more added fuel might not be a great gain but I would like to test it out mainly for the fact I have never seen it done before and being a first at something is a claim.

Hi,

One question is, how much use will it really be to put chilled induction on a spud launcher? The gas in the chamber would warm up to ambient temperature in a few seconds - with the pressure rise that goes along. It might be easier to just use a higher pressure in the first place.

- It reminds me of an idea I presented some time ago: An after-the-valve continuously fuel injected afterburner. Heating gas increases the volume and decreases the density, assuming that nothing happens with the pressure. It increases the speed of sound, too. All perfect for potato dislocation.

Soren
