Guys I thought it would be kinda of fun to start a new pellet rifle contest. That is if it's ok with the Administer of the site. The rifle would have to be able to hit a 1'' circle at say 25 yards. It could be 177 cal. or 22cal. It could be with scope or without. This would be what ever idea a feller comes up with. It would be so neat I know there have been BB guns in the past but there is some brillant minds out there and I bet we could learn alot from them.If I'm doing wrong let me know I'm not trying to take over anything just here to have fun with my new hobby. We could learn a lot from each other and come up with some neat guns. How about it. Looking forward to a response. Thanks for your time Chuck

It's a nice idea but the thing is that for less than 100 bucks most people can go out and buy their own pellet rifle that will easily hit a 1" target at 25 yards, it's not really that inspiring a goal. The traditional high of creating your own spudguns is fabricating something that isn't ordinarily available off the shelf :D

Well I thought it was a cool thing. If you look at some of the air force modles with co2 they are shooting 1/2'' groups at 50yards and they cost over $400 bucks. If I would have said any futher folks would have proble gave up on the accuracy. As it is you know a man will try to improve on everthing untill it is a accurate rifle and who knows the ideas that yall have may help some poor kid that could never aford a real accurate air rifle. So what say you guys lets talk this thing up who knows it may be fun, that would'nt be bad would it. Just think we do something on here that most people never get to do. We talk and exchange ideas with Guys all over the World thats something in it's self. Thanks for you time and comments I will continue with my goal to make a accurate pellet rifle thanks Chuck.

How about an accurate paint ball gun? Thats more of a tricky challenge.

i think its a good idea, it could be a competition for who can make the best pellet rifle for under a set amount of money.

Good idea, I thought under a set amount of money. But also the materials your using need purchaded in the shop, so everywhone that doesn't have much money, workspace or tools can build this cannon too  .

I just had a brilliant idea! you all know how paintballs get vaporized by any even half way decent pressure, so my idea was to have a slower opening valve, so the shock isnt to great.
what do you guys think?

edit: which shop are you talking about? as far as i know the only shop on this site is a virtual shop that only sells completed cannons...

i think that it would hold back the competition because it would hold back the construction.

I think the idea of a "most accurate rifle" challenge would be very hard to judge because a lot of the result is down to the individual shooter and other variables like wind and pellet drop.

yes it would so the competition woul have to be judged on desin and functionality.

I still think it's a "been done" project that doesn't warrant a challenge. You can make a pellet launcher by simply stuffing a barrel into a blowgun and still get impressive results. There are a lot of basic designs using off-the-shelf parts on this forum, and if you want to improve on design and functionality, you'll end up with something complex enough to be unlikely to "help some poor kid that could never aford a real accurate air rifle."

Apologies for the pessimistic tone, it's just one of those days

yes but isn't that the point of a competition; building super complex cannons to prove you are better than others not helping a "poor kid"

Well you guys it's not for prizes or who's better its to give some kid including this 48 year old kid something to do. It's to challange the mind to see what complex or simple idea you can come up with. You'll have guys go all out then you will have them use simply materials and build accurate stuff. Enough said by the way my complex working shop consist of the backyard, kitchen cabinet when the wife's not looking. I will build a rifle that I have in my mind it's a double barrel style. I start my days off in the morning and I'll get started. Thanks Guys for all the response well see how things go.Thanks Chuck
