Co2 supply

I'm thinking about making a regular vortex based bbmg. I don't have an air compressor though and don't want to buy one so I've been searching the forums for other ways, especially portable ones and have seen a lot on paintball co2 canisters. Some people say that they run out in a couple seconds, while I saw another post saying a 20oz would run a gun for several minutes straight . . . now I'm confused. Does anyone have a definitve answer on how long a 20oz paintball Co2 canister would run a regular vortex bbmg for? If it turns out to be not worth it I might even go for a mounted bike pump . . . it'd at least be cheap and totally portable. Thanks.

A mounted bike pump wouldn't be good for a vortex or cloud without a huge chamber or high pressure.

You can buy Argon or CO2 canisters at Bunnings for $50, not sure how long they would last though. Unless you can get a 20oz paintball tank from a local paintball field.

Try to find a really cheap compressor, i just posted a thing about compressors. I found a 1 gallon tank compressor for 30 dollars, search around and you will find something eventually.

The 20oz canisters are about $50-70 from TradeMe or www.paintballshop.co.nz

How big are the ones from Bunnings compared to a 20oz canister?

Trooper: You've got a point there, but then you're tied to a power outlet and I'm looking for something a bit more portable.

14oz I think.

I was thinking of buying <A HREF="http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farmi ... m">this</a> because it comes with a reg too.

Funny, I was just looking at that too. It says the regulator is suitable for mig welding. After a bit of wikipedia-ing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_metal_arc_welding - search for psi) I think that would mean the output is only about 20/30/40 psi which isn't great if you want it for a bbmg.

Yeah I wasn't sure about that either, because it doesn't have a guage it'd be hard to know.

I just found this: http://www.kiwipaintball.co.nz/product.html?id=13
A 68 cubic inch high pressure air tank. Bit expensive though. Anyone know what this would be like for a bbmg?

So does anyone have any experience of how long a 20oz or similar size co2 canister might last?

it would be insane, but the output is 800psi or 450psi witch is to much for a pvc bbmg

Would you be able to regulate that 800/450 psi output further to a suitable rate do you think?

Not without another reg or expansion chamber, where you would filter the 450psi through, and have it expand to around 80-120psi, which you then filter into the cloud/vortex.

Though if you forget to close off the expansion chamber to the gun and open the CO2, you could risk 450psi blowing the PVC up. Just gotta be careful.

Unless you want a full galvanised metal cloud/vortex with 450psi running through it  :)

Yeah I'd probably go for another regulator over the expansion chamber. I don't actually know about expansion chambers and how they work but from what you said I'm guessing they're fairly large to bring down the psi so another reason to use a reg. It'd be real expensive though.
anyone know anything about how the 20oz co2 bottles go on bbmgs?

That really would be insane. I wonder what the fps and bb/s would be?

Well what you would do is filter 450psi via the reg into a tiny, tiny chamber, and then filter that via ball valve, into a larger chamber that isn't necessarily that big.

And yeah, expensive it would be for another reg.

Edit: Revans, can you please edit your posts instead of double posting, we just have it as a rule to make the forum cleaner and less cluttered.

If you need to answer to more then one person, just do it in the same post, and if you have something to add, just edit your post.

Thanks, and you may want to read the <A HREF="http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/posting ... l">Posting Etiquette</a> :)

Oh and this is what a <A href="http://www.spudfiles.com/spudtech_archi ... loud">high pressure cloud</a> would be like.

Ok, fair enough about the double posting.

Would a bike pump really be that bad for a bbmg? This one here uses it:

A bit of elbow grease isn't that bad. Maybe I could mount a bike pump on for when I need it portable and disconnect the pump when I've got a air compressor/massive compressed air tank handy.
