BBMG- Airsoft Magazine and hopup design.

I've been building a prototype design for a BBMG pistol and here it is..

This below image is photoshoped to show you what ive been thinking

It would be used in airsoft as a backup weapon or as a primary for CQB.

This is what I have done so far.. The magazine catch is neodymium magnet catch.

I still have to purchase a new co2 inflator because I need one with threads. (The old one was modded and the threading was removed.)

This BBMG pistol fires a short bursts of around 30 bbs at a time. After each burst I have to wind up the hicap magazine.

I have been told for the longest time not to install a store purchased hopup in a BBMG because it would wear down too fast.. Well as usual I challenge authority and I decided to build a bbmg around a hopup.. Performance is quite good and the hopup isnt wearing down as fast as I thought it would.

I was also told not to use airsoft magazines in BBMGS because they cannot feed as fast... Well news flash.. they can feed extremely fast.

This would allow BBMGs to be in even smaller applications and to use real airsoft magazines. It also makes it so they can be extremely portable..

Interesting, reminds me of the Olympic Arms series of AR based pistols, curious to see what sort of performance you get in terms of muzzle velocity and shots per capsule.

Yes, As soon as I get some new co2 catridges and inflator I will be chronographing this at Airsoft Battlezone in Wisconsin.

Wow!

That's a nice design... although I don't know how it works... I'm assuming it's like a cloud or vortex type?

Or just one by one feeding where air flows and shoots the bbs?

I'm confused :(

hahaha as most of my designs.. they go against what everyone says not to do... The hopup feeds the BB's from the magazine straight up into the hopup. The co2 from the co2 inflator sends a burst of air that hits the back of the BB causing it to go through the hopup and barrel horizontally and getting spin at the same time.. The spin helps increase accuracy by a large factor.

So to recap.. BBs go up.. air pushes bbs out.

Its that simple.. Its that effective..

I shall call it... Direct Feed BBMG.

Hmm that mag looks awesome! I would only say that it may lack some ergonomics: Instead of just pulling a trigger, you would be pressing on the CO2 adapter.

It would be cool if you can integrate the adapter and then make a trigger-like system.

psycix the co2 inflators have a trigger on them so that they only let out co2 when pulled. he has to push on the inflator only to seat it properly on the tire valve or it leaks. The inflator has had its threads removed so it could be used for a different gun.

Have you considered using a mid-cap magazine of about 100-120 BBs?
They might not have the same capacity, but they don't need winding, so you could get one long burst, then change the mag.

yeah you could use midcaps if you wanted too.. this design allows almost any airsoft magazine setup.. You could do an autowind box mag if you wanted too...

The problem with most BBMG's in Airsoft are as follows:

Magazines dont look authentic. (round tubes)
Hard to have multiple magazines that are skirmish-able.
Feeding mech is too large to fit in my Airsoft Bodies.
Not portable.
Replica aesthetics.

All of these problems are addressed with my new direct feed BBMG!

You can build this design into almost any AEG, making it easy to convert an AEG. (remove gearbox, put co2 inflator in the grip and redirect the air into the back of the hopup and barrel that is already there..)

This way you dont have to work on the magazine, the feeding, or the barrel or the asthetics.. all you have to worry about is fiting the co2 trigger and feeding it to the back of the hopup.

The disadvantage would be the limited capacity of a 12 gram cartridge. Perhaps there's some way you could hook up one of those 88 gram cartridges to the inflator?

In any case, I'm guessing performance would be a little high for skirmishing, you'd probably need to restrict the inflator flow further and therefore increase the shot count per cartridge.

Hmm...

I think I'll be stuck with the old schrader air tank design for a long while... :(. Over here in Aus it costs me $50 to buy a trigger pull co2 inflator XS.

Btw show us a video I need some motivation so I can use your vortex cap design again XS. And a question... doesn't it seem like the magazine would break to easily? It probably doesn't but just looks like some bits are easy to break :S

the magazine would not break... magazine simply pushes the bbs up into the chamber.. the air is directed out the barrel. So no the magazine wouldnt break to easily.

Dang that sucks that it costs that much over there.. Buy one online and have it shipped... even with a higher shipping cost it wouldnt cost even close to that high.. Its not an airsoft product so you would be fine.. but the hopup is an airsoft product so im not sure if it would ship.. there are aftermarket hopups but it might not get ceased by customs. Who knows I know customs over there can be a pain at times.

But my vortex cap idea is still a good one :D
you could also make one of my Burst Disk catridges as well.

Would you like to come up a way to limit the flow with me? I'm always open to suggestions on how to improve my design.

I dunno but I'm not JSR but you could always make the tube diametre smaller.

Burst disk = I still don't understand lol...

And if I did adapt your idea Hop-up is real easy like noname once said, make a slit on top of your barrel, O ring it then seal it some how.

It'll wear out but hey, it only costs 10-20cents to replace it, cost effective hop-up XD.

I'll stick with air bottles for now though, can't ship, no credit card :(.
BTW 12g cartridges here in aus cost $6 each, and I have to use 8g XS

Equally, AEGs and other airsoft guns are not perfect replicas either - screw heads, wrong weight, plastic, wrong magazine capacities, batteries and gas to worry about... and in some parts of the world, even orange muzzles.

And real life guns don't have wind up magazines (well, yes, some guns with rotary magazines do, but you won't catch a US Marine winding up his M4's STANAG magazine.)

You can't get hung up on the small things. Portability is obviously a problem, but it's not perfect realism anyway, so the other problems don't seem like as much of a big deal to me.
