tough break kid, if they really are as bad as you claim, them maybe it wouldn't be the best idea to just keep them in the dark, just gotta try to convince them that you are interested in guns, and theres nothing wrong with it.

If your parents have a major bias against guns in general, then you may have an uphill battle. Otherwise, it sounds like you're experiencing some fairly typical teen growing up years there my man... Ages 13-15 are some pretty tough years for just about everyone and their parents. Hang in there and ride it out...things should get easier for both of you as time goes on.

my dad isnt so bad at least if he isnt angry i just ask him isolated questions then add it to my gun

i se it as getting harder because getting older=more chores= more things to go wrong=more yelling.

Then stick to your dad like glue, it sounds like he is convincable (like most dad's are). Show him your drawings...let him look on the Spudfiles site and show him good examples of cannons. Ask him to help you with it and that you would feel priviledged to have him work with you. This is the mature approach.

There are ways to get parents support. Being a whiny kid may get you what you want sometimes, but at the cost of still being viewed as, well, a whiny kid. It also wears on parents nerves like there's no tomorrow.

well he may be convinciable but he unfortunatly has my mom's ideals also in his heart. so he doesnt want me building gun's so i just ask him questions. my parents are asian and no amount of whining could change there mind i tried when i was younger. the only time i might whine is when i do like trimming the tree which uses clippers and saws then putting them in the bin then i do other things after that. then im done and im all ready to relax then my dad comes up with another chore that the only time i will complain

I get my pocket money, and that can go to what ever I want (within reason I guess). So I suppose that would be the finance you are talking about? My Dad lets be construct any cannon, so long as I pay for it.

My Dad is always interested in my final product.

raptorforce - What other cannons have you made? How did they make your Dad feel?

How about you try showing your parent that spudguns are different from fire arms, or show them that they require a high level of understanding of their physics, to do that take part in a contest, maybe school relatted with some friends who have similar intrest. Build a really good cannon and win the contest(its not THAT hard). Then invite your parents to the exibit( or how ever the contestans project are displayed) If you win they might change their minds and understand that these cannons help you learn. I am not tellign you to follow the above step by step but something along the lines might help, just a suggestion though. I managed to get my parents involved my mad liking for chemistry, now i have a tutor, get to do all experiments, am about five years ahead of my classmates and am very happy. I build stup uns in our cellar, my parents know a little about it but not too much, never had problems.

By participating in Spud gunning at the level you are here, you are learning some portions of physics, by default...you can't help but do so. That was John's main point, not that you should be taking physics in school right now.

Cool :-). I look forward to seeing this, never point this at anything you don't want to shoot. Show your parents you have respect for it, and convincing them to let you build another one may be easier.
