Is it possible to achieve a burst or semi auto mode while using a vortex block? I'd rather not shoot 2k shots in 5 seconds.

Burst yes - just "Burst" the air.

Semi-auto yea - load one bb in at a time :?

It will fire as long as you're pressing the trigger, so if you only press it briefly you'll get short bursts, like so:

Or you could have some mech that switches the air flow on and of, thus giving you bursts all the time without needing to release the trigger.

Like John said, a pulsed airflow would give burst fire.

Though if you have a good system to pulse airflow, then why would you be making a cloud/vortex?

very true, however good pulse air flow isn't hard to make, i thought of one way that is very simple...
And there are thousands more out there

How would i make the airflow pulse? I'm kind of new to this so I don't know much.

Instead of pressing on the trigger and holding it down, you press it quickly and release.

I meant more like a mechanical way, like john said.

Ah, that's where life gets complicated

Still, you can conjure up something out of standard parts, like so.

Here's the whole damn dynasty:

Modified pop-off valve

custom pop-off v1.0

custom pop-off v2.0

custom pop-off v3.0

... but unless you're handy with alternative construction techniques, I would suggest you go with standard parts and a pop-off piloted quick exhaust valve as psycix did.

haha, thanks, i appreciate it. so, would you be able to attach the outlet from the popoff valve to the inlet on the vortex block? and make it fire semi that way? or would it not work?

BBMGs (cloud and vortex) don't fire that fast. Figure it's more like 50 rounds/second (RPS), 3000 rounds/minute. So 5 seconds is about 250 shots.

You can of course just give it short short bursts of air. The problem with that is that the first few BBs in a shot will have lower velocity than the last few since it takes a while to fully pressurize the chamber to it's normal operating pressure. The normal operating pressure is somewhere in the vicinity of 20 PSI if you have a 120 PSI air source for typical cloud/vortex designs.

That's what I did here, power was crap though. This was for a 1/4" pop-off, if you can find a bigger one it will give more powerful shots.
