Questions about mini regulators

I am planning to build an air-gun with an internal regulator. To anyone who knows anything about regulators, how much PSI could either one of these take [as an input] before exploding and taking my hand off?

That brass one looks like a flow regulator. (well restriction)

That second one might just work at 600psi as it is quite small, but one can't really be sure. An inline paintball reg would be more suited or you could try home made regulator...

First one does look like some sort of needle valve or flow restrictor, doesn't do the same job but it could work in some instances.
Second one I wouldn't use much over 150PSI. I can tell it's one of those crap quality regulators that seem to be made from a material similar to butter; thread them on slightly too tight and they'll tear off without much effort.

Not sure if this is the right regulator, but palmer-pursuit make affordable high pressure regulators that will suit your needs quite well. When it comes to high pressure, you don't want to be cutting corners with quality.

Input or output?
Input will be 600psi [or more] either coming from 2 x 1L HPA bottles or 1 Soda Stream CO2 container converted to a 600psi HPA cylinder.

Looks good, but i was specifically looking at small regulators that could be built into the wooden stock of an old air rifle.

First one does look like some sort of needle valve or flow restrictor
So it is like a little gas valve, that only releases at a certain kg/m?

If thats the case, if i ran a 600psi input into it and then an output to a spray gun that could take say 300, after about 3 minutes - BAM, and my hand is gone?

An inline paintball reg would be more suited
I was considering using a paintball regulator but i am not sure of the fitting sizes or if they are NPT.


I could make the gun unregulated, have a 580psi spray gun with say 500psi input. It would be amazingly powerful but wouldn't last long.
My plan is to have the air-gun built into the stock, and then have a soda-stream co2 bottle as the source, that has a dedicated input located on the underside of the gun. The only problem is getting a regulator that A. Has the right fittings B. Can take the pressure C. Can fit into the frame.

If i cannot get the regulator to fit inside the frame, and i am not wiling to cut it to pieces considering how hard proper air-rifle frames are to come by, i will just have a regulator attached to homemade backpack style HPA cylinder/s and use a high quality dual gauge co2 regulator and some rubber pipe running to my gun.

I think the output on the paintball ones is 1/8" npt. And they aren't that big, but I don't think you have any other options...

The only way a needle valve could work as a reg is by having a large enough chamber that you can 'regulate' the pressure by severely limiting flow and waiting for the chamber to climb up to your desired pressure.

So you have a gauge on your chamber that reads up to the pressure you want to use and you have a needle valve between chamber and high pressure fill tank. Open the needle valve very slightly and once pressure in chamber has climbed to your desired pressure, close the valve.

Obviously this is very risky as if you accidentally open the needle valve too far or too fast, the chamber will quickly fill with pressure and may fail. A pop-off valve would be a required safety measure but still may not save the chamber from failing.

I wouldn't recommend this method personally.

Edit: Make yor chamber from galv. iron pipe and fittings, they can take 600PSI no problem even though they're 'rated' for only 150PSI. A metal-body quick exhaust valve (QEV) could probably also take 600PSI without too much risk.

I'll warn you; the second one you linked to looks a lot like the one I bought at harbor Freight, and it was a needle valve. When I returned it, they had the real regulators on clearance for $5.00, regularly $10.00. I bought two, but I should have emptied the shelves, since they have discontinued them.

Lame. I need 1/2 NPT or 1/4 NPT.
There are CO2 regulators on ebay that can take 3000+ PSI, but they are huge.
Make yor chamber from galv. iron pipe and fittings,
Down under in Australia, we do a crap-load of weed spraying, and can get high pressure spray guns fairly easy. The one i am buying is made of brass and has 1/2" fittings. It is rated to 580psi. Other parts of the gun will either be made from galvanized or stainless steel piping.

I can get my hands on a regulator easy enough, but having it the right size or shape is a pain. And the ones that are the right shape and fitting, can only take 200psi :| [/quote]

Best news, my mate's dad owns and runs a weed spraying company, and the local farm supply shop sell the EXACT spray gun i want. Now i can get a $200, 600psi spray gun for free, because he can just get it on tax haha :D

I also plan to buy an empty 1l Co2 cylinder and use it as a HPA bottle.

Also found a shock pump that can go up to 600psi :twisted:
Gonna be brutal.

Unregulated what speed do you think i would get out of a .25g airsoft BB with 500psi behind it?


Finally, what size fittings are those regulators? How much PSI could they take [input] and how much to mail them to Australia?

Good enough valve and long enough barrel, you could go past 1000 fps.

The airsoft BB's? Well in my town we have an army disposal store that sells red 6mm bb's as slingshot ammo. 4000 BB's for $25.
Other then that you can just order then by the 10,000 on Ebay, which is what i do :D
