I had this idea of having a constant air flow to power an airsoft gatling gun.
I am not actually going to build this, but I hope someone will take my design further.

There had been a similar proposal on spudtech, the design was a cloud BBMG with a barrel opening that led to several rotating barrels.

I'm a little confused why you would even need it to roatate.

so is it like while it passing between holes another bb falls?

no you would have to have the barrels rotate according to the speed that the BBs are coming out. if you can do that you would have a great gatling gun.

And why have a combustion when you can make a pneumatic?

cuz combustions are cool :P

Gatling tops cloud any day (coolness factor, not performance)

I agree. Who cares if it isn't as functional, people like new and unexplored things. It would certainly set it apart from every other cannon.

you would need to mount the mag on the side insted of the barrel that is fireing. this is because after one shot all the bb's will have been shot. this is way to complicated and i think it is a bad idea. i have experimented with this idea before.

you would need some sort of cam mechanism that would only load a bb in when the barrel is lined up with the clip. otherwise its would jam or dry fire or something. also i think a gravity feed mag would not work. the constant rotating of the barrels would not allow enought time for the bbs to load unless you plan on it being semi auto

upcoming projects... finalized clip fed BBMG and ball point pen sniper

Look at this, it is a diagram (i updated the top diagram) I made of the guns feeding method. This is exactly how R.J. Gatling's patented feeding mechanism worked on the original hand cranked gatling guns. Go to this link to find out more. http://science.howstuffworks.com/machine-gun2.htm

Trust me, it works.

that looks good on paper but how doable is it?

im sure you could do it but you'd have to spend ages perfecting the sizes, shapes, speed etc..

But still it would be sick.

Yes, it's doable. you can make the body and the whole thing out of pvc which i had figured out how to do with a little T fitting modification. the design would leak air, but it would work as like as a demonstration to show how a gatling gun works. I am not building one though. It would take a little too much time on my part. Maybe I'll make one out of pen tubes, in fact i will do that right now. >gets up and goes into bedroom, thinking<

<a href="http://www.spudfiles.com/spudtech_archi ... =12159">BB Gatlin Gun Concept - BewareOfDog (DR)</a>
[Found on the SpudTech archive]

For the sake of conversation I will just refer to "BewareOfDog" as "DR".

I never really took interest in building a functional gun resembling a gatling gun as it would surely be overly complicated. Then DR of all people posted the proposed design, found in the link above. Still unsure if it will work in practice, but I have always wanted to try, and build it. Hopefully this thread will strike some new found interest in the idear'.

DR, along with the other members did a great job at addressing common issues, and concerns. Such as FrankRede pointed out, possibly using a air motor to simplify the driving force. Although this would hog the already demanding cloud design, so it maybe would be a option to sacrifice simplicity for this.

Hope this will be of some help, to whoever reading.
