i happen to have recently acquired one of these

<img src="http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j85/i ... CN2694.jpg">

its a co2 powered air duster and i am thinking it would make the perfect power source for a vortex pistol. the design would be pretty simple heres is a diagram...

<img src="http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j85/i ... pistol.jpg">

just your basic inline vortex thats slightly mineralized. it would be designed as my back up airsoft gun (for when my big vortex gun runs out of ammo or jams) just wanted to run it by you guys before i went and made it. so do you see any problems with it?

Hmmm, it runs off 12 grams or something? You've built strafers, so you can probably tell whether it would be strong enough to power one.

just use a hose and hose clamps to connect it to a pressure gauge. that will give you a decent pressure reading.

i think it is just a disposable can, like deoderant.

That looks similar to the pistol that I attempted to build, except that I had a blowgun in place of the air duster. I was never able to finish the gun because I didn't have the right tools :cry:

well it runs off just about any type of small co2 canister (9gram, 12 gram, threaded or non threaded) i just got a box of 15 9grams for it and they seem to work fine. i don't think its regulated (i have had liquid co2 come out of it) and if i hook a normal gauge up to it will way over pressurize it, besides the more important characteristic is flow rate in a bbmg it seems like it will be fine but i have no way of telling for sure. i think the flow rate is about the same as a blow gun at 80psi

Isnt that the same thing as a CO2 bike pump? Looks very similar.

It's essentially the same thing, but this works more like a spray duster. Instead of "spraying" the CO2 into a bikes tire, it just kind of sprays to dust things off.

so this should be pretty dam powerful, do you think i run the risk of over pressurizing the pvc to the point where it could explode?

Even with it being a Vortex, you'll still be losing lots of air through the barrel, and I see no threat of it building up pressure, unless you have a jam that is airtight and wont un-jam.

Put a pop off valve on it just incase?

a pop off valve in my opinion would waste money. if the gun does jam and starts to pressurize then you can take the clean out cap off and let the canister either stop or empty its self out. its simple. and once its empty he can un jame it or what ever he needs to do instead of buying a bulky pop off valve.

Thats a great design you've got going there. I don't think it will over pressurize the pvc because the air is moving out the barrel. If it gets jammed, the BB that jammed is most likely deformed in some way and air will find a way to get past it. The flow of air in your gun may be so high that it will not jam at all. I am not just excavating this out of my arse, I have had BBs that were jammed in my vortex gun's barrel and the air went past them and my gun didn't explode.
