Co2 bottle hybrid.

This is my first post, so please pardon any mistakes. :D

Around the beginning of the summer, i decided to start working on a hybrid. Since i didn't want to be restrained by the relatively low pressure tolerances of plastic tubing, i chose to use a 20 oz. cO2 bottle for the chamber. having a minimum rating of 1800 psi makes for a pretty solid gun.



wanting to drill as few holes in the gun as possible, i decided to tap the propane meter into the existing hole in the brass valve at the top of the bottle. (i pump the fuel and the air in through the same hole)



ignition was a problem for some time. i didn't want to have any holes drilled into the chamber, but eventually caved and just tapped a spark plug into the back of the chamber. for an ignition source, i use the electronics from the inside of a PlasmaBall. this works much the same as a stungun, giving me ignition every time without fail.


so far i have not been able to afford a barrel for this gun. i tried to use 3/4 inch cpvc (paintball barrel) but the barrel exploded during a 5x shot :roll:
for now, i just use a 12" piece of aluminum tube i found in my garage, unfortunately, this barrel doesn't even start to tap into the potential of the gun.
to date, i've brought the gun up to 15X, using 3 layers of aluminum pop can siding as burst disk, and no projectile


this is a little teaser video until i get my camera back. my fist shot out of the gun. no ammo, just air blast shooting into a hardcover bible. (i'm sorry haha)

very nice like the plasma ball ignitor,never seen that before.
all those bikes in the garage but no barrel cant wait for damage

here's my next project by the way :D
on the left, is another 20 oz. co2 tank, and in the middle is a large oxygen tank. very high pressure rating=very fun gun

And awesome first post!

My computer is slow loading all the links individually right now.
(maybe you could use photo-bucket or the other popular one for vids/pics(?)) (please).
The one vid I saw was cool though.

The rating on the CO2 aluminum tanks will be lower rapidly if an auto system is devised IMO, due to heat.

So steel tanks would be a much better choice for hybrid material or thicker aluminum pipe with welding involved... Funny thing, in some paintball shops the steel tanks are obsolete, they look at me funny when I look for bargains on them it seems. 8)

i believe the aluminum tank will suffice for now. it's surprisingly thick walled, and built to have constant pressure held inside so we know it's built well.

It depends how hot it gets inside. As you know aluminum is a great conducter of heat and since metal expands when heated......... It should be fine for now but as thunderlord said it might be a good idea to switch chambers. I personally wouldnt but it is a good idea.

since it takes about 5 minutes minimum to get the gun ready for the next shot, i don't really have to worry about overheating. it doesn't get too hot each shot, because the ignition takes place over such a short time with this small of a chamber

yeah, my compressor is on its way out, so it takes a good while even on a full charge. i need some bailout money...

Be carfull, co2 tanks are safe at 1000psi there tested at 1800 so DO NOT TAKE IT ABOUT 1000!!! because that is very unsafe and you could risk blowing the tank

Umm the tank would be fine at 1000PSI. I think CO2 can reach about 1000PSI at a mere 85*F in those 20oz paintball tanks. I think they're actually good to about 3000PSI (in no way would I recommend exceeding half this pressure though), at least I've heard that before.
