Machined pengun - Dimply

Miniature guns are novelty custom, unique, and sometime downright crude! Common construction materials often include pill bottles or pens. Show us your work!

If you're going to go through that effort, might as well make your own custom smallbore pump and take the pen gun to 1000 psi instead of 400 ;)

Something like this is definitely on the cards as a near future project, though using exhaust valve type mini cartridges like these as opposed to the brocock type the one linked to uses.

Jsr I believe the live center was brought in because when it's cone shape is pressed into the spinning tube it almost perfectly centers it, the part is most likely loose enough to allow the few thou of movement that the live center caused. If not I'm sure LeMaudit will enlighten both of us.

I get that but shouldn't the chuck then have been retightened to fix the now centred part? Perhaps it was done off camera? Ah well, as you said we will be enlightened in a couple of hours I'm sure :)

what are the threads on the core? you could maybe do
the OD is very close to 13/64" or 5.16mm, the thread seems to be NF36... another exotic type of thread! But I certainly will explore in the future a way to make a sub-miniature valves... maybe based on existing cores... :-D
- why exactly did you use the live center,

I couldn't have explained better... in English! Thanks jor2daje!

This was left on the cutting room's floor :? Wait for the Director's cut ;-)
But I'm very glad you follow so closely!
- why didn't you add a die holder to the shopping list? Not worth $60? Do I have to make one? ... or can I be sure of centred threads using the manual holder?
Well... I lived without it during 10 years... I just bought it, it was it's first cut! And you where in a budget remember? And in a hurry?
Didn't I told you "wait wait hold the credit card I need to check through all my drawers !!" This one was still in its cardboard box!

There's other accessories you'll need too. This one, you can do well holding by hand the die as I show on the video, and you can also do it the other way around for extra precise alignment: tighten the die on the head chuck, and hold your piece on the tail chuck like it was a drill bit (max diameter 3/8"). It you tighten carefully (evenly around) it's precise enough.
You could also machine your own, it's a simple project (I'm lazy I just bought it) and you could use for example the drill chuck to hold a cylindrical support if you don't want to machine a Morse taper MT0 ... though it is also a nice way to learn how to do it, and maybe cut a bit of mild steel. You will also have a MT0 as part of your accessories that you could use and adapt to your holder. Lots of ways...

Machining some adapters is part of the fun... and may even make you save both time and money in the long run; for example here's my "universal" saw holder, that can auto center any kind of small saw's hole diameter (imperial, metric, 1/2", 5/8", 10mm, 15mm, whatever):

It just screw in as an extension of the existing Sherline saw holder. And you will have MT1 taper attachment too, as is also part of your chuck accessories... see, I thought a bit about it, budget wise... ;-)
I believe the original iteration was "man needs god..."
I would not dare changing the quotes of my favorite humorist Pierre Desproges. It's bold enough from me to try to translate its very weird French humor.

The idea with the cartridges is that the valve is a simple pin shape with an o-ring around it, and the need for attachment is avoided by having a pump with built in chamber.

Ah, makes sense now :)

I'm very conscious of the fact I'm going to have to replicate your work, I need to know what's going on ;)

*whistle* - good to have but not absolutely necessary then :)

I was thinking that might be an option, thanks!

Ah. Outside the sphere of French humour, it seems it was a femminist appropriation of a comment on theism. Boooooooo!

I didn't know that! :-D
I guess Desproges quoted it then. He hated war, chauvinism, religion, politicians, stupidity in general and made lots of comments like that in his texts. This one just made me laugh... and was easy enough to translate. He played a lot with words, and sadly that cannot translate most of the time.

His comments were nonsensical, outrageous and black-humored... you never knew when he was joking or serious. And he said things that are really outrageous; I'm thinking about some comments one could qualify of very racist... unless you take it as very twisted and a black humored way... of telling you what NOT to think! ;-) Then you understand he was a humanist.
I would not dare quoting those, they may be too French to be understood

I miss him badly

The same can be said of many fine British comics, that said the humour is so heavily dependent on language that it would be lost in translation - though I appreciate that the sentiment is the same :)

This it turning into a philosopengun :D

I can appreciate British humor, but truly because I understand English well... there's some hints I don't catch 100% I'm sure. French humor is much more nasty and sarcastic than British, who relate much more to absurd (the Monty and others...).
Discovering worldwide humor from member's experience and culture may worth a separate thread in the non-spud section :-D

LeMaudit;

I too can make dimples!
Except mine has all the functional parts, not just a simple shell rendering. :D

Waiting for the valve cap yet!

Time for a noob question. Does a die create outer threads? I know a tap creates inner threads, but does a die do the opposite? Nice work so far by the way.

How about a wireframe model for now!

Made my own valve cover cap because some one was to slow to give me their dimensions.
