Yeah, I know the difference, but maybe, considering where I grew up things gather different meaning. I know what a sawn off is, but the notches change the definition, along with the spread pattern.

but no matter what, the other version is still pretty damn badass.

I don't get where these notches are exactly and how they affect the spread pattern. Sawn-offs usually have a wider pattern not because of the short barrel but because the choke is sually at the end of a shotgun barrel, once you remove it then there's nothing controlling the spread of shot.

Maybe the notches act as a improvised choke?

A choke is what the name implies, a restriction of the bore diamter in order to "focus" the spread of shot as is illustrated here - I don't see how "notches" could make a difference here.

I know what a choke is, the one on my gun is to tight as of now but maybe it works as a reverse choke and the notches are spread out a bit allowing for the pattern to really spread out?

no the notches cause it to spread out but in an incredibly unreliable and erratic way, hence the sweeping part of the name.

A sort of modern-day Blunderbuss? Well, according to the wiki:
The funnel-shaped barrel (either round or elliptical) is not designed to enhance the ballistics of the weapon, but serves to facilitate loading ammunition into the muzzle. This makes it much easier to refill a blunderbuss with shot in situations where this would not normally be possible . The American National Rifle Association carried out some experiments with antique blunderbusses in the 1960's and discovered that the flared barrel had no effect on the spread of shot; shot did spread, as in any other shotgun, but not to the same extent as the barrel.

kind of but not really at the same time.

but I like how alot of things from the sixties are now antiques. that's great though. Vietnam war and we were still screwing around with the blunderbuss.

no you notch the inside of the barrel at different points by sawing into it, very shallowly (that doesn't look like a real word) at different points. the change and intruding lip or tiny lip of metal make the shot erratic, often stopping the warden.
the warden is cleared out when the next shell is discharged. ghetto gun improvistaion and modifications never cease to amaze me.

I'm confused wouldn't that ruin the barrel and make it completely unsafe for any use?

yup, it sure does.

but the numbers for something bad to happen to the shooter are minimal when the kind of 'internal slicing" g(notches) are too deep.

it is the length of the barell that makes the shot spread out, the notches are just because whoever cut it down used a hacksaw and is sloppy. hell, the spread on a 12" shotgun barell (12 gague) @ 70 feet is only about 13"-16" (with 00 buxkshot)
in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

hmm, ill get around to testing this with some buddies sometime, considering I think what you just said conflicts previous fiddling with barrel modification.
