Spud Gun Myth for Mythbusters?

I'm wondering if I can get the Mythbusters to do a myth on potato cannons. This would be right in there domain. I'm thinking of a myth based on supersonic spudding. As far as I know, there is no undeniable proof of this occurance. If I can get enough backing for this I could get the "myth" aired. I could refer to this site and everything. It would get a lot of publicity to this site and, in my opinion, a lot of more much needed active accounts. Any one oppose or have proof of supersonic spudding?
Edit: I've decided it's a bad idea to mention this site.

Hybrids... i'm sure most even all of the hybrids in the showcase can shoot supersonic...

There have been verified chronograph recordings of projectiles fired out of hybrids exceeding Mach 1 significantly. Also, a large combustion using oxygen enriched fuel mixtures built by dongfang exceeded Mach 1. It is even possible with air powered pneumatics, with enough brute force.
And anything the Mythbusters do with spudguns, we can do ten times better for a fraction of the cost. Let them stick to car crashes, falls, and high explosives.

JSR has nearly broken the barrier with a 400psi burst disc pneumatic firing 6mm bb's. He achieved 1104fps on his chrony.
The sound barrier has also been broken many times with Hybrids however i believe you are correct when you say that there is no hard proof.
It would be interesting to see the Mythbusters play around with a Hybrid or a light gas gun however if this site was affiliated with any episodes i think that the publicity would probably be a bad thing. You would get countless noobs trying to make a high powered spud chucker with no previous experience and we all know how the media would treat us if someone was to blow themselves up.
If you plan on contacting the Mythbusters with this idea and with the intent of mentioning this site please run it past PCGUY first

light gas gun
Even the Mythbusters don't have the budget to make one of those things properly.
I think the SCTBDC could break the sound barrier by a few fps, due to the use of pure nitrogen which should have slightly higher SOS, but I've never really been inclined to try it, because the projectile would have to be 50 grams or less. For the sake of pneumatic cannonry, I'll try it at least once when I get the launcher back out in the spring.

i don't think mythbusters would show the site on tv anyway... they go to shops etc. for parts or facilities but have you ever seen them on the internet? maybe they would give a credit
maybe we should make up a crazy awesome spudgun related myth like if you break the sound barrier with a pneumatic then a pink leprechaun pops out of the barrel of your gun just so we could see how they would make cannons to test it.

Well if you think about it a lot of there testing has had to do with pressure shooters. Now that I think of it there are more than I realized.
I of course will run anything publisizing this site by PC Guy. It would be foolish not to.
Well the Mythbusters would obvioulsy disclaim the use of them. Anyway, anyone who is smart enough to make a high power cannon shouldn't have trouble with operating it safely.
I still need hard evidence of mach potato shooting.

I'm not gonna lie that's more of what I wanted to do. But I don't want to disrespect anyone in the process. Remember Mythbusters is an entertainment based show. So if a white lie makes it to the air I would be curious to see how it works out. And ALLHISGREAT, the fact that you've posted twice without me responding means your curious aren't you?ALIHISGREAT wrote:i don't think mythbusters would show the site on tv anyway... they go to shops etc. for parts or facilities but have you ever seen them on the internet? maybe they would give a credit

I vote no. Every air cannon the myth busters have ever made has been a gigantic waste of air and pressure. And once it goes on tv, the rate of spudding casualties will increase tenfold. There have been plenty supersonic shots already.

Would you guys opt for a different myth?
I wouldn't say it was a waste. What they do envokes curiousity.I vote no. Every air cannon the myth busters have ever made has been a gigantic waste of air and pressure. And once it goes on tv, the rate of spudding casualties will increase tenfold. There have been plenty supersonic shots already
Do you remember the myth with the stamp and helicopter? Do you remember the cost of the model they wrecked? Over a thousand. I think they can afford a spud gun. Sorry if I sound offensive.Even the Mythbusters don't have the budget to make one of those things properly.
I agree with you RCman, but im just worried about the publicity that this may cause, and it may be in a bad way.
I think that i could be done on mythbusters with a few exceptions:
1) This site is not mentioned in the show.
2) They dont call it a spudgun, potatoe cannon, air cannon, etc because those all refer to something that was used in wars (cannon, gun) to kill poeple so it will bring out the negative aspects of this hobby which arent really bad if you built one properly.
3) They can use a fancy name, like a comustion air pressurized accelerator,(hybrid) and in that case people wont think of it as a lethal spudgun, but more of a high tech device that they can only create.
4) They dont use a potato.

I'll accept exception #1 (more thinking has lead me to believe it's a bad idea) For number three use the moniker mass launcher, or thermobaric mass driver
Perhaps someone like a senior member on here could go on as an "honorary mythbuster" like they sometimes have on. I agree with distancing spudguns from this, call it something else so people think of it as something that is out of their league so idiots don't attempt it.

I thought Joel (Spudtech dude) made a supersonic pneumatic cannon that ran on helium. Or is that my imagination acting up again?

I need definative proof of this to disclaim it as a myth. Even if I do get proof, I still wanna see if the mythbusters are capable of making one powerful enough.TurboSuper wrote:I thought Joel (Spudtech dude) made a supersonic pneumatic cannon that ran on helium.
