Anything of that caliber would be used for Rec use unless I was moose hunting or hunting bear...unfortunalty there isn't long open spaces here in Vermont...when I move out west I hope to be able to use it for long range targets...

I love my Lee Enfield its a nice rifle. I picked it up for 75 bucks second hand and its in really good shape. I recently put a scope on it but haven't taken it tothe range yet. Using the iron sights is fun but the rear sight is to big for anything futher then 75 yards thats smaller then a human... the micrometer sight is fun though. I picked it up at an yard sale of all places:)

The M1 is not geniune...its a replica made by Universal, Florida. I picked it up from a friends uncle for 100 bucks. He just wanted to get rid of it so his kids wouldn't get a hold of it. the gun is rate for 3 to 5 MOA but I haven't gotten that kind of accuracy from it yet. But it could be me... The gun is in excellent shape. Pretty near brand new. I got a real good deal on that one. Its a fun gun to shoot. I love it. I look forward to digging up an original...it feels like a .22 on steriods... Since it not authentic I would like to replace the sights on it...

My mossemburg is a nice gun for what I paid for it. 200 bucks for the pump 12 guage brand new. Its basically the same as the five hundred but its label as an 88 maverick. I have yet to find the difference. (Not that I've looked) Its a nice skeet gun. Its got a 28 inch barrel. Fiarly heavy which makes it nice since the kick isn't as much as some of the lighter guns... Like I siad its not much of a collection but its a start...

deffinatly, you got some greattt deals on your guns, iv had to dish out a little more cash unfortunatly, but iv got a few bigger newer rifles. You should check out a springfield or an m1 garand if your looking for WW2 rifles, if there isnt a gun store that close, or with much selection, check out http://www.gunbroker.com its like ebay... but for firearms appenetly machineguns are against ebay policy, and thats where this site comes in, one af my friends from VT got most of his arsenal from there. so where in VT are you...not to be stalker weird, but im kinda curious, im goin up to VT this weekend, and im up there several times a year. And also, i dont suggest using the m1 for anything more than recreation as the 30/30 is, like you said, pretty underpowered, and even during WW2, it did not pack a very big punch, granted that the carbine class rifles generally fire pistol sized rounds. Of course, acording to the Zombie Survival Guide, the m1 is an incredible effective zombie killing weapon, if not the best anti zombie weapon made. But as with enemy APC's, the local zombie population in your area may not be flourishing

Thanks for the tip on gun broker and I didn't realize the M1 was such an effective zombie killer I'll have to go down to my local grave yard and give it a shot

I'm in White River Jct basically where 89 and 91 meet. I live out side of town. Yeah I wasn't planning on using the Carbine for anything more the plinking. Just a fun gun to have and shoot. Definitely under power for anything bigger then your average garden verity squirrel.

I have looked and drooled over the Springfield selection of rifles. My personal favorite is there M1A...but money tree hasn't been sprouting many leaves lately so it going to be awhile before I pick up my next gun unless I can find an amazing deal. On an M1 or a M14...we'll see...

Got to love Vermont's guns laws..they are the most lax laws in the 50 states...

White River Jct, that's a pretty nice area. I was growing up in Windsor before my parents were killed by a drunk driver on Rt 5 by the entrance to the N. Hartland Dam. Some of my fondest memories are ones of going to silhouette shoots down in Springfield,VT. We used to shoot at the range in Hartland every Sunday morning. At least once a month we would drive over to Kittery,ME and shop at the Kittery Trading Post. It had the largest gun selection in New England. When ever I'm back there I always head up to Stan's Gunshop in Whitefield,NH. He usually has great deals and a decent selection.

I've shot at that range before in fact I go there once or twice every summer. I like that place better then where I currently shoot over at the Hartford Rod and Gun club. But the sandpit is a good twenty minute drive north of where I live and club is a two minute drive from my house...

I haven't been to the Kittery Trading post yet but I have heard about it. I stop by Barrows Trading Post in Quechee. He's expensive so I'm looking for another shop. I've heard there are a few nearby but with school, and work, my time has been limited...Silhouette shoots? I'm going to have to look that up I didn't know they had them in Springfield that would be fun...

hmm iv been in skiing at smugglers notch in jeffersonville all weekend, and im really sorry to hear that blue russet, something similar happened to me last year... but onto a brighter subject, jared, id save up for an m1A, iv got a pal whos got one and he loves it soo much, its an amzing rifle

It look like an incredible gun thats for sure specially the SOCOM...I need a good semi auto that uses a common caliber... not that I mind reloading it just the options are a bit limited on the bullets I can use and both the .30 and the .303 are rough on the brass..

then go with either the springfeild or the M1A, personally i would prefer the M1A because of its semi auto capabilities and upgradability. There are two companies making some pretty sweet looking chassis systems such as the EBR (Enhanced Battle Rile) from the people that want the m-14 back as the US main battle rifle, or my personal favorite, the Troy modular chassis precision weapon system. For either weapon though, the ammo is readily availble to the point at which if you go up to somewhere like maine, you should be able to buy it at a gas station considering how common 30-06 and .308 is.

i almost forgot!! i would strongly suggest NOT going with either the SOCOM I or the SOCOM II. The barrels on both of the are way to short for anything but close combat, and the round itself is wayy to big for that. If its the modern look you like check out this baby:

Do I dare as the price tag on all of that? That looks like its all custom work did you do it your self?

Thats what I figure I really need to get a good rifle that use at least .308 honestly I think .30-06 it a bit much for my wallet and my shoulder to be shooting round after round. That just a sweet looking gun.

I did wonder about the shorten barrel on the SOCOM rifle's but not having the money of either a MA1 or an MA1A1 I haven't done a side by side comparison.

Last question whats the specs of that black beauty that graces my screen?

well that beast will probably run you something around $2200 but possibly less if you got an m1A cheap, and a used chassis

Its not accually custom work, its just got a whole load of accesories, all avalible to the public.

And yes, that is deffinatly one hell of a .308

The SOCOM rifles weild 16" and 16.25" barrels
The Standard M1A has either an 18", 21", or 22"
The M-14 has a 24"
