I was just tinkering around with an idea and I wanted to know what you experienced fellows thought of it. I want to build a smalli combustion to fire potatos and maybe paintballs as well as AA batteries. But I wanted to build a body for it that looks like a Russian SVS Dragonuv sniper rifle. some dimensions:

Chamber: 1.5" x 8"
Barrel : .75" x 30"
meter pipe: .125" x 22.75" brakeline
male schraeder valve to fill
2x 1/2" ball valves
yadda yadda yadda

BTW: the C:B is 1.03:1

Looks like it will work. Good look on having it looking anything remotly close to a real gun. It looks like your meter pipe doesnt have any were near the volume needed. Where is the propane tank going? (im assuming that you are using propane)

EDIT: Ya that brakeline in your picture is no way near 22.85"! Your going to have to wrap it in a circle or something.

the propane wouldnt be an onboard setup. I would have a male schraeder valve going into valve #1 and the female S valve hooked to the propane tank, come to think of it- now- with the male valve I could eliminate one of the ball valves all together.

I used spudtoolonline to figure out the C:B and the meter pipe sizes and volumes, according to that @ .125" x 22.85" long the brakeline would provide a 4.2% mixture @ 35psi (174 feet above sealevel, which is close enough to my elevation). Not trying to sound like a know-it-all, just telling you how I came to figure it out. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

The proportions of the gun would certainly be off but it might KINDA resemble the SVD in the end.......... I hope.

Just remember that I would be building a body for it, to cover most of it up. all this would be inside the body.

OMG nice gun how did You make the barrel so good and the container look like a real clip?!?! Ok enough with the awfull humor you might wanna try buying a toy gun. There are many guns looking like AK47-sniper mix. Anyway good luck.

LOL, im gonna give this a shot, im up for the challenge. I got the stock made and the trigger ( ignitor) mounted so far. will be buying parts here and there. will keep this updated if all continues to go well.

that'll be a hell of a thing to see, you could go with a dragunov type stock for an AK47, though the AK47 has a smaller receiver and basically smaller everything else since the Dragunov fires the full size 7.62x54r round and the AK47 fires the smaller 7.62x39 round. i hope you're not planning on using a real scope, since they can run into the 400's and beyond.

on a side note i saw a dragunov airsoft reproduction for sale for 700 bucks, and for that money i could buy a real dragunov type (not a russian, probably a romanian) for that much or even slightly less!

I hav an MAK witha dragonuv synthetic stock, but im not gonna rip my baby apart to build a 'tater gun,lol. I have an sks also with a synthetic stock( post ban pegged folder). I wish I had an SVD, although i fired one sniper scholl and was not impressed with its performance as a sniper rifle. It was hard to maintain a solid 2 M.O.A out beyong 350 meters, could do the same shooting with my SKS, iron sights.

no problem, for the time being i'm window shopping surplus guns as i'm saving for a car and insurance, i love my M44 though! i bet i can roast marshmellows on my bayonet with the size of the muzzle flash!

The SVD is my favorite gun if you make this plz post pictures.

As an update for you guys:

I have decided to go with 1/2" copper for the barrel and the chamber is still going to 1.5 " PVC. I havent had the extra money to buy all the parts but i just got a bunch of copper from my father-in-law, so that helps. I just need to buy another 20 or so dollars worth of stuff before I can get started on this. I also revised the plan for the metering. When all is said and done this project will certainly fall into the mini combustion catagory, but should be alot of fun. I'll keep you posted as I make progress.

dont have all the parts to finish it yet, and I broke the stock that I had made so I went into the cellar and started making a new stock and tried to dry fit what parts I do have to get an idea of how this is going to turn out. I took a few picks for you, maybe on payday I will pick up the rest of what I need so I can get serious here. Here is my unfinished meter and a very crude dry fit. and my new unfinished SVD stock

I decided to change the meter to a completeley different setup, instead of going over the top of the barrel with a meter tube i drilled a hole in the chamber tube and inserted a valve stem from my spare tire, hope I dont get a flat anytime soon.

your guns going to look sweet are you going to paint the stock or leave it wood cause it wood look sweet black. for the metering are you going to do something similar to boogieman .http://www.advancedspuds.com/propane.htm is that similar to what you were talking about.

the meter is going to be similar, only it will be very small due to the size of the chamber. im planning on painting the body and barrel black but I will be staining the furniture to keep with the look of the SVD. thank you for the compliment, time will tell how it is going to look in the end. I only have very limited tools to work with and i just blew up my dremel (RIP, you have been a faithful friend for many years and you will be sorely missed *sniff, sob*). Oh well, thats the way it goes.

Man I know it's a little bit late because it's already finished but it wouldv'e been better if it was a pneumatic not a combustion. Anyhow great project I think I'm gonna "borrow" your plans a bit. hehe

actually it isnt finished yet , i just like making combustions for the time being. eventually I will get bored with combustions and I will move on to building pneumatic cannons. Feel free to borrow them, If I was uptight about it I wouldnt post them at all . Here is another idea that I was toying around with, the meter from my other cannon is made os 1.5" and its 7 " long. if i left the barrel at 36" long I would have a C:B of 1.33:1 or I could cut it down to 24" for a 2:1 C:B. Decisions, decisions. I like this setup here, and i think im gonna go with it. less parts to buy.
