The other day I was at my local dump looking for things for the cannon I'm making and I found a bunch of old BBQ grills they all had the igniters in them :D It beats paying $12 for a new one...

I was out the last weekend in november camping on the beach and in the middle of the night I took a walk to relax because it was a full moon and about a mile down the beach there is a landslide area that has been evacuated about three month ago the place was covered in beach houses and every one had a bbq on the porch! the houses were completly empty but some stuff they left behind I must have gotten at least 30 of them that adds up to just about $500 i saved! yee-haw

What! Not trying to be negative but isnt that illegal to go through people property even though its destroyed? Looting? All power to you though, not like I havent done anything illegal! Just dont get caught and dont talk about it on a public forum. I would of took those propane tank adapters to. "A mans trash is anothers treasure" thats what I love about spud guns is there is stuff that you can use for them that gets throw away and then you salavage it for a good purpose. 30 of them! You must of been doing this for a while! In closing I would like to say one more thing AWESOME JOB!

the houses i went to were just about to be bulldozed down like the ones around them the igniters would just have gotten smashed. and thanks pimpman, I just wish I could have gotten the tanks and adapters o well they are gone now.

I have one question. Don't you have ignition coils (it's called something else I think) in hair dryers?

A hair dryer is basically a fan and a heating element. the element is coiled up but it does nothing electrically except provide enough resistance to heat up red hot, an ignition coil ( obviously ) amplifies electricity: a property not found in a hair dryer.

Actually it does have an element ( I don't know it's name in English). Try this. Turn it on, plug it first obvious. Then after a minute quickly unplug it and touch the plug (the both electrodes?). You'll get shocked. Dunno if that's enough to produce a spark anyway...

That's right you just fill it in 220V ACDC current and then connect to some high resistance material also found in hair dryers it becomes red and really hot and I think it's pretty good ignition trick

your thinking of a metal called nickel cadnium its used in cigarette lighters in cars, toasters and blow dryers I use it to ignite flash powder and black powder in mines and trip wires for my paintball friends.
