golfball veering off course

Ive been annoyed by this for a long time, when i shoot golf balls they veer off course after about 400ft. As much as 150ft in a different direction than I aim at. I dont think my barrel brace is faulty because i took it off and golfballs still go in different diections. My barrel is unsleeved 1.5" SRD21 pvc pipe about 7ft long. Oh also sometimes it shoots either up, down, left or right for a few shots then changes to a different direction. Heres a pic of my golfball gun. I have a pice of 1.5" pvc dremeled to fit with a hose clamp for my barrel brace. Do you think I should sleeve the barrel to make it more accurate?

and also a vid, this took me about 20 golfballs to get it where i wanted it to land. :x

that's a heluva lot better than my golf swing.

something to search for either here or google would be hop-ups. hop-ups provide some backspin and increase accuracy. i'm not sure how well they work on golfballs but there is a ton of info.

Hop-ups increase range, but decrease accuracy by putting a backspin on the ball.

Hmm maybe this mystery will never be solved...

NOT true... They can decrease fps, but they do NOT decrease accuracy. The ball will spin backwards almost always when you have a hopup, instead of catching the side or something and going sideways, or the bottom and going down. If your hopup is too aggresive, then yes, your accuracy will suck. The ball will arch; it will curve up, and abruptly fall down when it looses backspin. If your hopup is just right, you ammo should go in a very shallow arch, reaching just about level with where you were aiming when it reaches the target. So yeah, look up hopup, I've seen a few threads on it here.

EDIT: Small imperfections in your barrel are causing the ball to spin sideways. It is random because the barrel flexes slightly when the gun is fired. I think sleeved barrels may be a little more accurate because the seam inside gives the ball a path to follow.

Hmm... It seems as though I was misinformed...

How difficult do you think it would be to get the hop up fine tuned so that it worked properly?

Where do you get these golf balls? When I go to the driving range and hit golf balls, the older and more worn out the balls are, the less accurate they are. It's actually pretty amazing how sharply they can turn in flight.

Surely if you reuse golfballs after demolishing stuff, they won't be in any shape to fly accurately. Internal cracks, dents, and plenty other things can easily happen and can easily throw off the flight characteristics of the balls.

Golf balls are made for flight. They will go straight unless something is wrong the golf ball itself.

my golf club understanding is basically the the face of the club has two purposes. the first being the face will launch the ball on a path perpendicular to the plane of the face at impact.
the second is the greater the slope of the club face the greater the backspin. this is why drivers with less slope hit the ball farther, but they still have slope. all your irons have varying degrees of slope.
the spinning ball is less influenced by small gusts, making the flight more predictable.
so your telling me that backspin on a golfball is not accurate.

does backspin out of a barrel compare differently than a little tiger woods backspin???

Ill add a piece of rubber held by a coupling tomorrow and see if it works.

At high speeds golf balls will jump around at all different directions in mid flight if they don't have a spin on them. Or if you are getting a spin they will curve off in one direction. To get them to fly strait just put a nice backspin on them. My favorite method is just gluing a strip of 1/8" rubber on the inside of a 1.5" coupler and sticking that on the end of the barrel (probably don't even need to glue it to the barrel). As the ball exits the barrel the top of the ball will hit the rubber and spin the ball backwards.

What kind of glue do you recommend?
BTW I love your GB Semi.

I just used generic epoxy. It doesn't really get a lot of force put on it, like I said I don't even have to glue the coupler on the barrel just stick it on there firmly.

Ehh, I would personally start by trying some relatively thick CA glue. If that doesn't work, maybe try using some plastic or rubber epoxy.

wow my golf balls never really did that.
