So I might be getting a small metal lathe soon and I was wondering what kinds of interesting projects I should look into doing.

Obviously piston valves galore. But what else? JSR? Got any ideas for a fully automatic something-or-other?

I have complete plans for a full-auto combustion.
I am just limited by my lack of lathe (and vertical mill, but that's a smaller problem).

It's weird that no-one's thought of the idea before, it's a very simple design.
Still, I'm not handing out plans yet.

Alot of that depends on what size lathe your getting??? Swing over bed and chuck size has most of the limitations. I have a 8"X12" with a 4" chuck. I can get a 2" tee chucked up with no problems, a 3" tee will be tight, and if i wanted to work on a 4" tee, it had better be chucked perfectly or it's getting torn up.

Your first thing to do is get your work area set up, make sure you can work comfterbly, or it will refleck in your work. Then learn the basic techneks, tool bit sharping/facing/tapering/parting off.

As for projects, a basic hammer/tap guide/shims/bushings, and what ever else you mite need a part for.

Heres a good website for ideas.

I think Pimpmann22 has the 7"X12", there are links to the manufacture there.
