Musket Rounds

I was waiting for the glue to dry on my Copper Musket and I had some time so I figured I'd make some ammunition for it.I made two kinds for it in a special way which I will be making a How-To on soon once I've 100% perfected it.Anyway, the two round are Hollow Point and A Hollow Base, they are shaped like bullets and look very cool.I'm not sure if the hollow base will help these babies fly straight or not but I will figure something out. Here are the pictures.

I want to see how this hollow point goes against Ballistic gel,Mmmm Goose Bumps.

Wow very nice, can't wait for a how-to.

For the pictures, try zooming in from a distance instead of taking it up close and on my camera, I have a small button with a flower next to it, when I press that it focuses the lense for point blank pictures.

Thanks for that info,I'll try that next time when I make the next batch.

My girl friend is annoying me,I have to go....I'll answer any questions later.

To guarantee stable flight you want to aim for a cross-section similar to the Foster slug:

I don't know how effective hollowpoints would be at the relatively low velocity this launcher would fire them, they usually need quite a bit of speed to mushroom effectively. It depends how hollow the hollow is I suppose, for example if you take an airgun pellet and load it upside down (skirt first) into something fleshy, it opens up really nicely.

I to was wondering about how it would mushroom, but the real truth is in the testing

I might try making some very hollowed out slugs,as in the base hollowed out to try and get a good stable flight.I'll let you guys know how these things go as soon as I can.

You could always aid expansion (as well as providing a penetrating subcalibre projectile)

I like the way you think JSR,I think this is definitely going to get a try!

I even have the small ball bearing in my hand right now,on to making another hollow point round!

Always happy to help :) don't forget the hollow tail though, my suggestion would be that for every centimetre of solid head, you'd have at least three centimetres of hollow tail.

Give it enough welly and it'll mushroom, design assistance or not :D

14mm solid lead(and tin) slug at point blank (about 10m...) into a reinforced concrete wall.

Had to be dug out of the ground afterwards. After much searching.

Nice!Mine being hollow pointed with sectional expansion groves also known as notches on the inside of the hollowed out point it would mushroom nicely with enough power, hopefully.

I'll do some testing JSR with ratios like your 2/3 hollow tail etc and see which gives good results, but are also reasonable.

It might well be easier to make a lighter tail of solid plastic or wood than try to make a hollow lead section.

The longer the cast slugs are the harder they are to extract as far as I've experienced.

Who said I cast them?I've got my own way which I will be doing a How-To on soon once I perfect it myself.
