Hi everyone, I didn't have a clue where to post this, so I stuck it straight in General.

I lost all of the passwords for all the accounts that I use online, and unfortunately, I had forgotten my Spudfiles login details, but also my login details to the email account I signed up with, so I couldn't retrieve a new password either.
Anyway, just saying that the old account is unoccupied now.

Cheers

You forgot your passwords for everything?
That must be really annoying. I choose passwords that are hard to forget, and easy to remember to avoid that.

Here's an idea. A good scheme is to use the names of actors or characters from a film/book/TV show/video game of your choice as passwords, but switching out "o" with 0 and "i" with 1 or !. As long as you can remember the source you used, if you forget your passwords, it's quite easy to find them again.

They're no easier to for people to guess as long as you choose a vaguely obscure source. For example, at one point I used the names of planets from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books (I don't any more, don't waste your time trying them), but with a suffix of the number of the book and the page number on which they first appeared.

If you know the source, and have copies of the books, it's easy to find again if you forgot it, but no-one else would stand "a whelk's chance in a supernova" (there you are, a hitchhiker's quote) unless they knew your system.

I never forget passwords.

I just forget which one I used for that specific purpose.

After a dozen times or so typing it I can even remember the godawful 18 character alphanumeric password for the library. Mind you, if anyone actually heard what I think when recalling my way through it they'd not have a bloody clue what it was

Anyways p'raps pcguy can do something about the account.

I just use a word that I've been using for everything for years. I know its not secure, but no one would want to get into anything that really matter to me. And I use the same username, so If i find something I need to register I always try my username and password and sometimes I've already made an account. oh, and the password is only letters, and only 8 characters long, when I need to be secure I just repeat it and add a few numbers.

I think PCGUY could help. He manually reset my password once without info I think.

Email me with the address you registered your original account with and we'll figure something out for ya.

Surely your powers allow you to manually reset the password and make your own one?

For the password memory deficient try using a browser that has password features.

Opera has a nice little feature called 'notes'. All you do is add your password to the 'notes' list. You can then rightclick on any input box and select your 'note'.
Opera also has your standard password management combined with a 'wand' or fastforward button. It simply logs you into your account.

Firefox has password management also. It will remember different accounts/passwords for a single site. Good if you share a computer and visit the same sites as other users.
Informenter is a Firefox extension that does the same as Opera 'notes'.

I recommend Firefox 2 series

I'm running Firefox, but I don't like the idea of all my passwords being stored in one single place.

Firefox doesn't seem to like spudfiles...

I let my password get saved and it saves the flipping thing as a random jumble of letters which means next time it fails to log me in at all.
