Not sure if this is the right area but...

The new show on the discovery channel called smash lab is using a pneumatic cannon to replicate hurricane force debris.

you just beat me to this! they are using what seems to be 5 10 gal tanks, hooked up to a pipe manifold with electric solenoid valves on each tank.

2x4 = 100 mph

I know many improvements can be made like a bigger manifold, QEV'S and bigger pipes

Anyone have a bigger cannon POST PIC :D

I don't mean to be rude, but there was really no point in starting a whole new topic just to state that Smash LAb uses an air cannon. The show is pretty great, but next time, please dont start a new thread.

Thanks,
iPaintball

:P

A fair few of us have already seen Joels hurricane simulation demos where he launches lengths of 2x4 into thin air/brick walls/misc.

I have seen joel's mega cannon and I apologize for starting a new thread about a television episode.

I just thought some people would like to know, and this is general discussion, it's not like it's in a help me post stating something along of the lines of "OMG WTF MATE I JUST SAW SOMETHING UNBELIEVABLE PLEASE HELP ME COMPREHEND BEFORE MY BRAIN LEAKS OUT MY NOSE AND MELTS ON MY KEBOARD!!!!"

Your brain is melting? Now that would be something cool to see....

HAHAHAHA! That just about made my day. I was a little harsh, but I've been around here a little while and I don't want to see this forum get littered up with random topics. By the way, welcome to SpudFiles! (I'm only saying that because I haven't been on in a while... )

I see where you're coming from with wanting to keep the forum idiot/litter free.

Makes me feel better that I made your a day a little better (or was it worse[you didn't say]) Didn't want to upset too many people before my 15th post

they use too much caution tape, i can see why on the cars they're blowing up, but it's EVERYWHERE if you ask me there isn't that kind of need for all that tape, there just isn't, and their tests are almost always flawed in some really obvious way, sorry for my ranting, they just aren't the same as mythbusters

They probably think that caution tape looks cool.
Makes them think they are doing dangerous stuff and thus think they are tough guys....

That was a pretty nice cannon for a TV show. They had some flow choking issues, but if they didn't have those it had the capability of performing quite well. They used very nice valves.

I think they are actually pretty good, their personalities aren't as good as the Mythbusters, but they are way more willing to go strait to full scale destruction testing. With the exception of the aerated concrete episode I think their testing methods have been pretty good. Definitely better than the Mythbusters when they first started.
